Coordinates and prepare complex accounting analysis and reconciliations, prepares journal vouchers and other related general ledger reporting entries for the monthly reporting to Treasury, and present results to senior accountants and Manager with recommendations to internal and external stakeholders for accurate reporting and other tasks as required. Establish and update policies/procedures as required.
Examines sub-ledgers against reports and automated databases for unreconciled transactions, identifies discrepancies in the posting of current and past transactions, records and proposes corrections for supervisor approval, enters corrections for erroneous postings and accounting classifications, and balances, reconciles and adjusts accounts and records to produce periodic financial reports and analyses. Recommends corrective actions as appropriate.
Monitors and clear daily suspense items promptly for monthly and quarterly reporting to Treasury. Prepares monthly and quarterly suspense reports per DHS, Treasury, and other policy standards, using applied accounting principles. Work is rarely reviewed, typically through status reports and at project completion to ensure policy compliance and alignment with the requirements of projects and/or other work activities.
Independently perform analysis and is expected to meet mandatory reporting deadlines, establish priorities, identify projects, make or carry out assignments, resolve conflicts and problem areas, and interpret policy and regulatory requirements. Ensure the supervisor is informed of controversial issues.
Identifies, researches, evaluates and recommends modifications or improvements to financial/accounting procedures, policies, and financial systems that can be identified as more efficient and accurate for processing recorded transactions.
