Hybrid Role: Must be able to come on-site periodically and reside a commutable distance from the assigned work location.

Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Job Summary
  • A Financial Accountant is responsible for corporate and strategic business unit accounting functions. Responsibilities could include analyzing financial data and recording transactions, account reconciliations, analyzing and explaining variances from budget to actual, setting up and maintaining financial systems, financial statement presentation and reporting, and accounting research. Areas of accounting could include: cost accounting, general accounting, holding company accounting, accounting information systems, affiliate billing and external reporting.
Key Accountabilities
  • Analyze financial information, ensure transactions are processed accurately in accordance with GAAP or regulatory accounting standards.
  • Ensure accounts are reconciled.
  • Facilitate streamlined closing and consolidation processes.
  • Comply with accounting controls and procedures.
  • Utilize continuous improvement and lean systems methodology to drive out costs and improve the quality of work/life balance.
  • Create a positive working environment by supporting DTE Energy and Controller's Organization initiatives including training and development, diversity, work and personal life balance and enterprise core values.
  • Prepare external reports in compliance with SEC and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Ensure Financial Systems and reports are set up and maintained in order to provide accurate and timely financial information.
  • Perform Affiliate Billing processes and procedures in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Research accounting issues and new accounting standards and writes white papers summarizing accounting policies and positions.
  • Perform strategic accounting functions for strategic business units including cost accounting for fuel, purchased power and gas.
  • Position may require FERC gas training.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent
  • Three (3) years of accounting experience in corporate and/or public accounting
Other Qualifications

Preferred

  • CPA, CMA or MBA
  • Experience with General Ledger Applications, Peoplesoft and/or SAP

 

Other Requirements

  • Experience in the preparation of journal entries, financial statements, account reconciliations, budgets/forecasts, and variance analysis.
  • Ability to organize work independently and to work in teams.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to resolve accounting issues and develop conslusions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
