Position Summary  

Embark on a rewarding journey to master a skilled trade through our structured and systematic apprenticeship program. As an apprentice welder, you'll engage in hands-on learning with on-the-job training while supplementing your experience with essential related instruction.

⢠Duration: The apprenticeship program spans three years, providing a comprehensive and immersive learning experience. This is full time employment. 
⢠On-the-Job Training: Gain practical expertise through a minimum of 2000 hours of on-the-job work experience per year, offering a real-world application of your skills.
⢠Related Instruction: Enhance your knowledge with a required minimum of 144 hours of related instruction each year. This supplementary learning ensures a well-rounded education in maritime technology.

Duties & Responsibilities  

ESSENTIAL:

Are you passionate about welding and eager to kickstart your career in the field? We are seeking motivated individuals who are ready to learn and demonstrate their abilities under the direct supervision of a Mentor or Senior Craftsman. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

⢠Learn and demonstrate the ability to perform job functions with guidance from a Mentor or Senior Craftsman.
⢠Develop a high level of critical thinking and reading comprehension skills.
⢠Acquire knowledge of trade qualifications, with performance as an entry-level Welder considered an asset.
⢠Learn, understand, and proficiently perform basic setup, adjustment, and operation of various welding equipment and hand tools used in the trade.
⢠Select welding filler material, joint design, and proper heat ranges in accordance with Technical Work Documents.
⢠Must be available to travel and/or overtime as required by project needs.

Qualifications  

REQUIRED:

⢠Enthusiasm and willingness to learn in a hands-on environment.
⢠Basic understanding of welding principles is a plus.
⢠Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
⢠Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively in a team.
⢠Willingness to travel and work overtime if necessary.
⢠Be at least 18 years of age.
⢠Have a high school education (advanced math or vocational/technical skills are a plus).
⢠Be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the job.
⢠Be able to obtain a Security Clearance.
⢠Take a knowledge and practical skills test prior to the job interview.
⢠Promote safety and quality workmanship as core ethics of everything you do.
⢠Attend class and be on time.
⢠Maintain a cumulative âBâ average in your college classes.
⢠Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Additional Information  

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position is considered PRODUCTION/OUTDOOR WORK which is characterized as follows.  
The shipyard/base/manufacturing work environment; the site may contain mobility barriers with uneven ground level and obstructed pathways.  Climatic and environmental conditions at the job site will be indoor/outdoor climate with various temperatures and noise levels caused by tools, machinery, equipment, etc.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY/REQUIREMENTS:

OCCASIONAL
 
⢠Lift 20-50 pounds. 
⢠Work in confined spaces, kneel, jump, run, work while lying on stomach/back, crawl, and use repetitive movements of the arms and hands. 
⢠Identify color differences.
⢠Wear PPE for skin protection.

FREQUENT

⢠Lift 10-25 pounds. 
⢠Climb stairs/ladders, stand, balance, stoop, squat, reach, and lift/carry objects.
⢠Twist body, sit with back supported, head forward/flexed, head tilted/rotated, and work with arms extended overhead.
⢠Operate a motor vehicle.

CONSTANT

⢠Lift up to 10 pounds. 
⢠Wear PPE protection for body, vision, and hearing protection.
