Hours Full-time, Schedule to be determined, 5 days a week. Location Kailua-Kona, Big Island Pay $25 to $31 an hour, Based on Experience Responsibilities
  • Maintain inventory of materials required for research.
  • Maintain laboratory stock cultures of algae and elements of the microbial community.
  • Rear algae at intermediate scale and conduct necessary analyses.
  • Prepare samples for research by other laboratories and send them out in a timely manner.
  • Assemble teams to accomplish tasks when needed.
  • Learn to recognize eukaryotic pests and weeds, isolate contaminants, and conduct necessary procedures for identification and characterization.
  • Keep impeccable laboratory notes and communicate regularly with team members and stakeholders.
  • Prepare reports to be shared among team members and assist with reports and presentations for externally funded research projects.
  • Work effectively with other personnel in the Research & Development Department.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor?s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, Agriculture, Marine Science or relevant discipline.
  • Two or more years of lab experience and/or experience in algal production or aquaculture.
  • Experience with molecular biology (DNA) theory and techniques desirable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong math, statistics, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to changes in work assignments.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and state/federal background check.
