THE OPPORTUNITY
Dillard’s is looking for an experienced SOLR / Shell Script Developer who is highly motivated and technical and enjoys collaborating in a team environment.
As our ideal candidate, you will be well-versed in SOLR / shell script development and able to solve complex user experience problems for Dillard’s e-commerce website. You will also be able to easily step into an agile environment that includes working closely with business analysts, QAs, and other developers who are supporting projects. A solid work ethic, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and the ability to adapt to changing needs and priorities will be crucial.
THE TEAM
In this role, you will work with a large team of developers responsible for all the code development and quality assurance for the www.dillards.com website. This team also supports a few other in-house applications that business teams use to manage the content and products on the website.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Develop and maintain our HCL Commerce Search ( SOLR ) index & profiles
- Optimize SOLR for performance and scalability
- Write SQL queries that will power the search experience
- Develop and maintain shell scripts to automate various tasks and Java batch programs
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to SOLR and shell scripts
- Learning the business environment while working in a collaborative team to achieve organizational goals
- Work well under pressure, grasp new ideas quickly, and be able to thrive in a dynamic and diverse environment.
- Participate in an on-call rotation
THE MUST-HAVES
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship
- Ability to work onsite at Corporate Headquarters in Little Rock, AR
- Java development experience
- Excellent problem solver
- Personality and drive to handle multiple projects
- Experience with SOLR development and configuration
- Shell scripting (Bash, KSH, Python) experience
- Ability to write efficient SQL queries
THE NICE-TO-HAVES
- Experience with eCommerce search functionalities
- Experience integrating SOLR index with 3rd party on-site search providers
- Experience with Git repositories
- Experience using Jira issue-tracking system
- Experience working collaboratively or on an Agile team
- Quick learner who enjoys a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of Agile / SCRUM methodologies
WITHIN 1 MONTH, YOU’LL
- Understand the basic flow of our site - from product pages to checkout, My Account features and functionality, etc.
- Understand our agile process - card assignment, self-testing, QA testing, and transitioning cards in Jira.
- Understand GitHub Desktop and GitLab - creating branches, committing and pushing, and merging changes.
- Understand the basics of our code base and how back-end development is tied to the front-end.
WITHIN 2 MONTHS, YOU’LL
- Have a high-level understanding of the batch processing that supports the site.
- Understand the deployment process and its role in development and production.
- Be able to make small changes with SOLR and shell scripts with minimal assistance.
WITHIN 3 MONTHS, YOU’LL
- Have a good understanding of how the different index-build queries and search profiles affect the users' experience on the site.
- Begin working independently - finish on time, test your work thoroughly, and debug and correct defects.
- Attempt to complete medium-difficulty tasks on your own.
- Begin to work as a member of our on-call rotation with assistance.
