This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Work Schedule: 8:00-4:30pm
The incumbent is responsible for providing all aspects of Primary Care services within one or more of a
multi-division (Topeka-Leavenworth) facility and nice Community Based Outreach Clinics (CBOC). The
Primary Care physician may be asked to provide care in various settings including as a member of an
outpatient Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT), CBOC, and other areas as appropriately credentialed.
Primary Care Physicians perform the services required in the practice of primary care. Educational
experiences are provided to appropriate health care personnel who seek training in primary care services
(e.g., medical students, psychology and social work interns, mental health residents, physician assistant
and nursing students, and medical residents).
1. Responsible for providing direct care to patients.
2. Provides clinical guidance to mid-level providers.
3. Participates in interdisciplinary team activities to achieve optimum interdepartmental
cooperation ensuring the quality of patient care is maintained or improved.
4. Participates in the progressive improvement of the service delivery which may include
programmatic participation in initiatives within the facility.
5. Responsible for coordinating with providers within their own service line and outside of their
own Service Line, at the other divisions within the EKHCS structure and the CBOC's as
determined by the plan of care for the Veteran. Open, Clear, and collaborative engagements
are a key duty. Incumbent is ultimately responsible to ensure barriers for Veterans and staff
are minimized to promote a positive work environment. Fosters positive work relationships
with staff, peers and Veterans.
6. Responsible for evaluating and treating various acute and chronic health conditions, illnesses
and injuries.
7. Responsible for initiating consultations/referrals to specialty services, as indicated.
8. Orders diagnostic studies, such as laboratory tests, x-rays, electrocardiograms, etc., in the
evaluation and management of acute and chronic conditions.
9. Offers education and counseling to patients and families, regarding the patient's health
condition and the recommended diagnostic and therapeutic treatment options, to include
medications.
10. Responsible for medical care, graduate and undergraduate education and scientific research as
appropriate.
11.Physicians within Primary Care are appropriately credentialed and privileged. They participation various hospital committees, departmental and hospital in-service programs, and education programs of the department and the hospital. They are also involved in continuous quality improvement through the peer review process.
12.Actively participate in compliance readiness activities as requested by Quality Management and the Deputy Chief of Staff.
13.Covers patient care and surrogate for other physicians and mid-levels within the service line for leave and call-ins.14.Performs other duties as assigned.
