Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Superintendent, Construction. 

 

Rotation schedule will be 4 weeks on-site with 2 weeks off-site

Responsibilities:

•    Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
•    Support the implementation of the Teck Projects Development Framework in conjunction with Red Dog Operations
•    Creation and revision of Standard operating procedures (SOP) and Management of Change documentation requirements for construction related activities
•    Maintain, implement and demonstrate Teck’s commitment to health, safety, environmental and community (HSEC) protection as a core value  
•    Exhibit leadership and management qualities in the areas of safety, health, environment and community through identification of hazards and mitigation of risk
•    Develop and monitor construction execution plans for effective management of construction projects
•    Supervise and monitor construction activities supporting the installation and handover to operations
•    Development, adherence and reporting of established budgets and timelines. 
•    Supervise, manage and coach direct reports
•    Review and ensure the credibility and integrity of construction contractor reports on cost, schedule, progress and potential changes
•    Oversee change management functions and maintain change management records of scope changes, trends, and variances that potentially affect project budget or schedule
•    Assist with the evaluation and review of invoices and claims
•    Transfer learning from project implementation into the improvement of company policies and procedures
•    Assist with Contract Administration and preparation of Contract Change Orders.
•    Support management in preparing presentation materials for monthly cost reports on the overall project portfolio
•    Administrative duties appropriate and necessary for the smooth implementation of the job role
•    Other activities as required on Red Dog Property as per Manager Projects instructions
 

Qualifications:

•    University degree in engineering or equivalent experience
•    Minimum of 10 years of construction supervision experience
•    Professional engineering certification is preferred
•    Project experience as an owner’s team representative or as an EPCM contractor
•    Experienced in all aspects of project delivery including studies, detail design and procurement, construction and pre-commissioning/commissioning
•    Project experience coordinating with mine, mill, mine, port, logistics and maintenance operations groups would be considered highly valuable
•    Strong skills and knowledge of overall project implementation management processes
•    Knowledge and experience with organizational dynamics, some conflict resolution skills
•    Clearly articulate priorities, success factors, risks and opportunities to the project team
•    Effectively manage teams or disciplines to deliver to project requirements
•    Knowledge in analyzing data, trending and forecasting of cost variances from data generated on the portfolio of projects to assist management in decision making is an advantage
•    Understand and can discuss application of project procedures
•    Understand and experience in aspects of project controls, scope management, quality management
•    Proficient in Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
•    Motivated self-starter, able to work under minimal supervision and be able to manage several tasks simultaneously
•    Excellent interpersonal skills as well as excellent oral and written communication skills
•    Results-oriented with excellent organizational, planning and decision-making skills
