Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic

- Under the direction of the Director of Transportation, organize and coordinate the maintenance and repair of district vehicles and equipment; perform journey-level mechanical work in the inspection, diagnosis, repair and maintenance of a variety of heavy and light district vehicles and equipment including gasoline, diesel and alternate fuel powered equipment; train and provide work direction to assigned staff.
- Check buses for conformance to Highway Patrol standards.
- Operate diesel and gasoline school buses, trucks, vans, forklift, skiploader, drill press, steam cleaner, wheel balancer and other hand and power tools.
- May be required to drive a school bus to a location outside the transportation yard and perform emergency bus driving duties as required.
- Provide input to the Transportation Director in the evaluation of assigned staff.
- Maintain the general appearance of the buses; perform minor sheet metal work and paint as required.
- Principals of internal combustion and diesel engines.
- Must be able to adequately reach brake, clutch and accelerator pedals.
