Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity for Infectious Diseases (ELC) EPIDEMIOLOGIST (MDHO)

$5,600 - $8,289 per month, salary commensurate w/ training and experience

 

Exempt, Non-Civil Service, Full-Time, Temporary Appointment.  The primary purpose of this position is to detect, control and prevent infectious diseases, including emerging threats and potential bioterrorism agents, on Maui by collecting, entering, managing, and analyzing public health data to make evidence-based recommendations and drive policy decisions.  This position will be responsible for facilitating enhancement of disease outbreak investigations using data-driven methods and principles; ensuring efficient and timely response to and reporting of disease alerts; developing and enhancing surveillance for reportable diseases and conditions; facilitating, coordinating, and exchanging surveillance data with partners; implementing and interacting with routine, sentinel, syndromic, hospital-based, and other surveillance systems in the state of Hawaii to enhance early detection, identify outbreaks, and support all-hazards situational awareness.  This position will conduct epidemiological assessments and analysis and develop reports and other data products as required by the federal Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) cooperative agreement.

 

 

Minimum Qualification(s)

 

EDUCATION:  Master’s degree in Epidemiology or Master’s Degree in Public Health or a health-related field for which the incumbent completed and passed at least three (3) epidemiological methods courses, one of which must be at an advanced level, and at least two (2) biostatistics courses requiring mastery of large dataset management and epidemiologic analyses using statistical software or tools.  Each qualifying course should have fulfilled a minimum of three (3) credit hours.  Additional coursework in data science, analytics, or informatics is preferred. 

 

EXPERIENCE:  A minimum of one year of progressively responsible professional work experience is required, as follows:  independently implementing analytic epidemiologic projects; or planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating data applications and systems; or implementing public health surveillance systems.

 

LICENSE:  Valid State of Hawaii driver’s license is preferred.
