Duties
As an IT Specialist (INFOSEC), you will perform the following:
Lead Assessment and Authorization (A&A) Team Lead - Leads a team of federal and contractor IT security specialist in conducting the annual A&A assessments of the NWS FISMA systems in accordance with national policy.IT Security Authority - Acts as the IT security expert and authority for all systems at NWS. Oversees policy implementation and provides clarification and policy guidance. Briefs senior NWS management on all IT security issues and ensure NWS is meeting IT security policy.IT Security Incident Response - Serves as the POC for all IT security incidents at NWS. Ensures all NCIRT tickets are opened in a timely manner and that the field personnel respond promptly in accordance with established procedures and policy.Requirements Conditions of EmploymentKey Requirements:Applicants must be U.S. Citizens.Suitable for Federal employment, as determined by background investigation.Selectee may be subject to serving a one-year probationary period.Must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable (www.sss.gov)More requirements are listed under Qualifications and Other Information.This position is NOT in the bargaining unit.Relocation expenses is NOT authorized.A background investigation will be required for this position. For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. ANDSPECIALIZED
Experience: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.To qualify for GS-14 level:
Specialized
Experience: Applicants must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following:
Evaluating the security posture of complex computer systems, networks, operating systems, personnel, and facilities;Plan, organize and direct studies to develop long-range IT security forecasts and recommendations.Plan assessments of systems and resolve critical problems which require advanced solutions; andCoordinate development of IT security standards, guidelines, or policy.Education
