Johns Hopkins Medicine International (JHMI) facilitates the global expansion of the Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM) mission: to improve the health of the community and the world by setting the standard of excellence in medical education, research and clinical care.

Located in Baltimore, Maryland, JHMI has two divisions -- Patient and Corporate Services provides personalized care for selected patients traveling to Johns Hopkins, and Global Services collaborates with affiliates across the world to improve health care globally.

Position Summary:
The VP of Patient and Corporate Services is responsible for driving both immediate and long term, diversified and sustainable growth, and operations of JHMI’s Patient Services (PS) division. They plan and direct all aspects of the patient services annual operating plans, policies, strategic objectives, and initiatives, and is responsible for the development and attainment of short and long-term financial and operational goals.
As an executive member of the JHMI’s Leadership team, this individual plays a critical role in leading JHM’s projects and patient services activities that span the larger JHM enterprise and participates in the development and implementation of JHMI’s strategic plan. As such, this role requires significant interaction with the senior management of JHM, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine (SOM), Johns Hopkins Health System (JHHS) as well as the JHMI Board of Trustees and represents JHM/JHI to key external stakeholders including top government officials.

Reporting Relationship:
Reports directly to the President of JHMI. Has supervisory responsibility for Executive Director, International and Corporate Services and Directors, Patient Services and Corporate Services

Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategy & Growth:

  1. Responsible with the JHMI President and Executive Team, and JHM stakeholders for identifying, operationalizing and executing on new ventures and strategic partnerships for JHMI’s Patient and Corporate Services. Collaborates with various leaders across JHM/JHHS to develop and successfully implement new service lines and locations for international patients to be seen.
  2. Collaborates with the Executive Director of Marketing to identify new regional areas for marketing campaigns to increase referrals for areas with access. Identifies the marketing opportunity by defining high value clinical areas and confirming access exists for international patients.
  3. In partnership with the Executive Medical Director and faculty, develops new international relationships with providers to increase referrals to JHM entities in line with the strategic plan.
  4. Supports the SOM Departments and JHHS entities, who have interest in international patient growth. Collaborates with VP of Finance and Revenue Cycle to ensure business plans are developed that cover cost of entity clinical infrastructure as well as margin for shareholders.
  5. Understands and researches national best practices for attracting and retaining international patients across 3 different payor types; embassy, commercial insurance, and self pay. Influences enterprise shared services to invest in comparable program infrastructure. Identifies w JHM leadership opportunities for desired growth. Growth efforts coordinated with VP of Finance and Revenue Cycle who ensure estimates, billing, and collection happen accurately and in a timely fashion.

Operations:

  1. Oversees the successful implementation of contracts (includes operational, financial, personnel and clinical components). Ensures that relevant goals or objectives are accomplished within prescribed timeframes, funding parameters and contractual commitments.
  2. In collaboration with the VP of Finance and Revenue Cycle, manages the patient and corporate services budget development. Requests from VP of Finance and Revenue Cycle regular financial modeling, statements, and forecasting documents for internal and external meetings.
  3. Along with JHMI Executive leadership, develops long-term strategic planning.
  4. Provides direction, momentum, vision and executive level guidance for the business that includes International Patient Service Division and Corporate Services for Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Financial Management:

  1. With the Vice President of Finance and Revenue Cycle, responsible for the Profit and Loss of Patient and Corporate Services.
  2. Manages considerable financial and performance data analyses.

Educational Qualifications & Experience:

  1. Master’s in Business or Health Care Administration or similar advanced degree required.
  2. A minimum of 10 years of previous work experience in an academic, clinical health care, or business setting with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership role is required.
  3. Professional level of knowledge of clinical healthcare operations.
  4. International Patient care program management experience is highly preferred
  5. Experience and proven track record of developing, negotiating, and executing agreements for large-scale projects is required.
  6. Experience and knowledge of academic medical centers, patient satisfaction, complex and fast paced organizations, inpatient and outpatient operations, and faculty relationship building.
  7. High level of analytical ability to assess performance data in order to make sound management decisions.
