PRIMARY PURPOSE
Provides direct support to dietitians and neonatal nursing staff in preparing formula orders, packaging and labeling, tracking inventory, maintaining records, and performing clerical duties.

MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS

Education

Experience
-Must have one year of healthcare experience.

Equivalent Education and/or Experience:
-May have an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in lieu of specific experience as stated above.

Certification/Registration/Licensure:
-None.

Skills or Special Abilities:
-Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of a PC, and be able to learn and use new software.
-Must be able to pass mathematics and spelling test with a minimum score of 80%.
-Must successfully complete in-house aseptic training program for formula compounding.
-Must be able to demonstrate basic computer skills for area of responsibility.
-Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills in the operation of equipment used in primary practice area.
-Must be able to demonstrate basic knowledge of different types of formulas and components.
-Must be able to demonstrate basic knowledge of medical and health care terminology.
-Must be able to demonstrate patient centered/patient valued care.

 

Responsibilities

  1. Follows established procedures to prepare and distribute infant formula orders and breast milk fortification orders, and/or sterile products under formula room supervisor’s direction. Accurately maintains and replenishes formula room supplies as directed. Enters charges for formula’s prepared.
  2. Assists in the maintenance of various inventory records, invoices and formula hardcopies to ensure efficient and effective operations.
  3. Assists in the maintenance of assigned areas, including cleanliness, formula and supply inventory, equipment, and simple repair to ensure the Infant Nutrition Center is clean, operational, contains the necessary supplies, and is free from obstacles.
  4. Acts as a resource person for non-judgmental infant formula questions to medical staff, nursing staff, patients, and visitors.
  5. Enters data for productivity reporting, assists with expensing of food stocks and processing of invoices and requisitions.
  6. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the formula room. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.
  7. Adheres to all PHHS procedures and house standards.
  8. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and PHHS.
  9. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements and trends in the field of infant nutrition by attending in-services. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
