This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
Duties
The psychologist is assigned to the inpatient Mental Health Unit (IMHU) in Behavioral Health & Rehabilitative Services at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, West Virginia. In addition to providing direct patient care to Veteran patients, the psychologist has responsibility for the development, coordination, management, and clinical oversight of psychotherapeutic and recovery oriented psychosocial programming on the inpatient unit. The position emphasizes the provision of Evidence-Based Psychotherapy (EBP) as appropriate to training and patient care needs. The psychologist may be asked to contribute to the training and supervision of clinical psychology trainees (interns, postdoctoral fellows, or practicum students). As needed, the incumbent may also provide psychological services in other settings within the facility's health care system (mental health clinic, Primary Care, Community Living Center, tele-mental health clinical, etc.). Assigned duties may include completing clinical psychology assessment for the Compensation and Pension (C&P) examination through psychodiagnostic testing and interviewing; however, this is not expected, regular duty. The psychologist will be expected to be active member of Behavioral Health & Rehabilitative Services and work in concert with psychiatrists, nurses, physician's assistants, peer support specialist, and social workers.
The psychologist provides a full range of direct patient care to Veterans on the IHMU, including psycho-diagnostic evaluation, individual and group psychotherapies, evidence based psychotherapies, and other services. They produces timely, appropriate documentation of care in accordance with agency policy. The psychologist has knowledge of, and the ability to apply, advanced professional psychological theories and techniques to the full range of patient populations. The inpatient psychologist serves as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team for Veterans on the inpatient unit, collaborating closely on a daily basis with psychiatrist, social workers, nurses, and providers of other disciplines (occupational therapy, recreational therapy, and others). The psychologist leads psychosocial and psychotherapeutic treatment planning for Veterans on the inpatient unit. The inpatient psychologist guides, informs, and coordinates psychosocial and psychotherapeutic programming made available to each Veteran on the unit. The psychologist provides psychological consultation to medical center staff of other disciplines regarding care of Veteran inpatients.
