As an Underwriting Supervisor within JPMorgan Chase Mortgage, you will be tasked with the development and maintenance of underwriting strategies and procedures to minimize risk and ensure a controlled environment. Your role will involve contributing to long-term planning and initiatives aimed at operational excellence. You will also support adherence to investor and regulatory requirements, capacity model, staffing, and offshore alliances with other lines of business. Furthermore, you will be responsible for communicating decisions (approval, suspense, denial) to the appropriate team members or other lines of business, while upholding the fair lending practices of our organization. Ensuring that the underwriting team meets targets for productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction, and performing second reviews of underwritten denials will also be part of your duties.

This is a hybrid role (3 days in office/2 remote)

Job Responsibilities

  • Partner with Operations to identify process break root cause and help develop improved controls/efficiencies leading to reduced risk and improved production.

  • Create/Maintain a positive working environment which encourages participation to attain business and individual objectives.

  • Coordinate with senior managers and supervisors to establish production and quality control standards.

  • Run meetings with staff to review production, process updates, employee acknowledgements and other related items.

  • Provide leadership, communication, and coaching to employees; cultivate a motivated employee environment of trust, teamwork, accountability, self-confidence, and business ownership.

  • Establish and maintains strong working relationships with key members of Operations through ongoing coordination of operational matters and utilizing effective communication and when warranted, conflict and resolution skills.

  • Follow Policy and Procedural changes/updates and identify key risks and develop monitoring programs which identify the level of exposure to these risks.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and skills

  • Minimum 5 years managing others, with evidence of Matrix management and outstanding results

  • Minimum of 7 years Conventional and 5 years Government mortgage underwriting experience

  • HUD Direct Endorsement (DE) and VA credit

  • Expertise in Government, Agency and Jumbo guidelines as well as understanding of Government lending

  • Possess Risk and Control competencies.

  • Ability to delegate effectively.

  • Proven ability to hire, develop, and retain top talent.
