Supervisory Optometrist

Summary

This position is located at the Pine Ridge Service Unit in the Great Plains Area Indian Health Service. The purpose of the position is to function as Chief Optometrist with full program responsibility for the service unit Optometry Program including supervision to Optometry staff and to provide direct, comprehensive medical/optometric care to individual patients.

Duties

1. Independently diagnosis all optometric and ocular problems through external and internal physical evaluation of the eye and surrounding tissue.
2. Refers patients requiring complex medical surgery or services to appropriate medical specialty.
3. Provides vision and eye care education and counseling to patients.
4. Takes complete history from the patient and/or family member to determine risk of eye disease. Records all patient care examinations, assessments, procedures and care plans.
5. Supervises subordinates, develops and monitors the eye care budget, devises, and implements projects.
