Accounting Specialist I

Overview
The Accounting Specialist I performs one or more of the following accounting and/or payroll activities: checks and verifies records, prepares invoices and vouchers; posts ledger and general journal entries and/or balances accounts payable or other balance sheet account records. This includes generating reports, conducting specialized research projects and responding to inquiries as required. The ideal candidate is professional, customer service oriented and understands confidentiality requirements.

This includes generating reports, conducting specialized research projects and responding to inquiries as required. The ideal candidate is professional, customer service oriented and understands confidentiality requirements.
MAJOR ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Processes and codes invoices and purchase orders for data entry into company automated accounting system utilizing principles of three-way match verification (invoice, purchase order and receipt) and knowledge of governmental tax and income reporting requirements
- Processes expense reports for internal employees in accordance with company guidelines
- Prepares and distributes payment to outside vendors per company payment schedules
- Protects company's credit reputation by paying vendors within terms and/or establishing cooperative relationships with such vendors to resolve issues
- Troubleshooting accounting issues, typically between Purchasing, Warehouse and external vendors
- Monthly and Yearly reporting adhering to company deadlines required for financial reporting, preparing accruals and journal entries as necessary, monitoring open purchase order balances and activity, preparing assigned balance sheet reconciliations and sales and use tax returns, assisting in preparation of 1099 statement.
- High School Diploma with courses in bookkeeping or accounting desirable
- 1-3 years of experience in accounting
- Demonstration of general knowledge in accounting principles
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, along with commitment to outstanding customer service
- Detail-oriented team player who is able to multi-task
- Proficiency in Excel and Word. Experience with automated accounting systems.
FDBU works with technical data, technology and materials that are subject to U.S. export laws and regulations.
