We are looking for a Sr Operations Engineer to join our CP team in Freeport, TX.

The Petrochemicals division is the starting point of BASF’s petrochemical-based value chains throughout the regions. The division manufactures and markets a broad portfolio of high-quality basic chemicals and tailored specialties for internal and external customers.

 

We are seeking a professional like you to join our Freeport, TX site in the Acrylic Acid 400 Block. In this role, you will be primarily responsible for supporting the daily operation of the Acrylic Acid 3 plant while providing technical assistance in executing the required production plan. You will apply Engineering Best Practices to solve process and production problems and create improvements in the plant operations. You will analyze productivity, quality, and maintenance data and use that information to optimize existing plant equipment. This position requires you to demonstrate your strong leadership qualities in safe plant operation, as the site has PSM/RMP regulated chemicals.

  • Supporting and role modeling EHS activities and processes.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of processes to achieve compliance with EHS regulations.
  • Leading the coordination, completion, and documentation of PSSR / MOC reviews to meet process safety and environmental requirements.
  • Providing technical support in root cause failure analysis for EHS incidents.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting skills to the Daily Operations Team.
  • Monitoring operations on a daily/weekly basis and analyzing and studying trends to determine patterns, research inefficiencies, and identify action plans to correct issues.
  • Developing and implementing process improvement plans that will enhance safety, quality, plant reliability, cost, and efficiency.
  • Supplying your engineering expertise in the specification, design, and construction of projects in accordance with plant design requirements, BASF standards, and regulatory requirements as well as serving as the Manufacturing Representative on Capital Projects.
  • Developing critical thinking and troubleshooting skills of the production staff.
  • Successfully engaging across the organization and collaborating with plant Operations, Maintenance and Engineering.

  • Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Chemistry (preferably Chemical or Mechanical Engineering)
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in production and/or operations
  • Have experience in a chemical/petrochemical or similar manufacturing environment with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Are available “on-call”, should you need to respond to any after-hours event that impacts production or EHS
  • Have the ability to adapt to regular changes in this role as you will encounter occasions to support plant outages
