SUMMARY
As a Lean Engineer I or II (depending on experience) for our Solar Operating Group at Mortenson, you will support project teams with applying Mortenson's kaizen-based continuous improvement approach, as well as 5S and Flow Construction, to enhance work safety, streamline processes, and improve project outcomes. This is a 100% travelling position in Colorado and/or California with rotations home every 3 weeks.
The base compensation range for this role is $74k-$93k for Lean Engr I and $78k-$105k for Lean Engr II. This position is eligible for a potential annual bonus.
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skill and experience with consideration given to internal equity.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partner closely with project leadership and craft workforce to establish trust and gain buy-in for lean approaches
- Provide regular feedback to project leadership and the group lean leader on the application of lean approaches to assist in cross-project sharing, including craft workforce participation/engagement, the activities undertaken, and related outcomes
- Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
- Support continuous improvement efforts onsite
- Coordinate with the project team to plan and execute improvement events
- Assist and facilitate portions of improvement events with the support of group and company experts
- Provide support in reinforcing continuous improvement principles and ensuring ongoing application of essential tools after improvement events
- Support forepersons on observing work, assessing adherence to standardized work, and addressing abnormalities effectively
- Collaborate with forepersons to actively encourage crews to brainstorm and implement improvements on an ongoing basis
- Support the project team, field leaders, and trade partners in applying 5S practices
- Support the onboarding of new craft workforce and trade partners by communicating 5S standards
- Create plans and resources to achieve 5S standards
- Support flow and work management onsite
- Actively participate in flow schedule development for relevant work phases
QUALIFICATIONS
- Solid understanding of continuous improvement principles and how they apply to different work processes and environments

- Ability to travel 75-100%.
- Prior experience on construction job sites is preferred.
- Current driver's license
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Engineering or other science or mathematical-related degree, or equivalent combination of education and technical/field experience demonstrated over multiple years of related work experience
- Minimum one year construction or manufacturing experience
- Experience applying continuous improvement in manufacturing or construction
