Patient care in the Division of General Surgery, Foregut/Bariatric Surgery Service.
The Advanced Practice Clinician (physician assistant/nurse practitioner) role in the Division of General Surgery provides care to patients in a University Health Sciences clinic and hospital unit. Individual will provide care for Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgery patients as a part of the Comprehensive Weight Management Program. Responsibilities will include participating in preoperative and postoperative care in the outpatient setting as well as inpatient postoperative management. The Foregut/Bariatric Surgery service currently consists of 4 Attending Surgeons and 3 APCs. Incredible health care and retirement benefits. This position is considered Category I: Mandatory and required on-campus or health care facilities to support on-site operations. Employees hired into this category will be required to be physically located at the work site if they are healthy and without COVID-19 symptoms.

Independent outpatient surgery clinic 2-3 days/week.Inpatient rounding, post-operative care, and hospital discharges.Assist in the operating room as needed—current estimated need is 1-3 days a month.Cover consultations from the emergency department or other hospital services.Respond to outpatient messages and telephone calls.Participate in continuing medical education to include specialty and sub-specialty meetings, clubs, boards and conferences.Assist in the collection for research projects.Participate in special projects and committee functions including team meetings and education conferences.

Licensure is obtained by completing a Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master’s degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination.
UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.
