The Surgical Technologist (ST) is responsible for facilitating the surgical procedure through the assembly of instrumentation, equipment and supplies. The Surgical Technologist work as a member of the surgical team under the supervision of a registered nurse, with the surgeon, anesthesiologist, and other medical support personnel to provide patient care in a manner consistent with the mission, vision and values of the Surgical Services department and Swedish Medical Center.
Join our team at Swedish First Hill and thrive in our culture of patient-focused, whole-person care built on understanding, commitment, and mutual respect. Places equipment and supplies in operating room and arranges instruments, according to instruction. Maintains supply of fluids and medications labeled and ready for use during operation. Hands instruments and supplies to surgeon, holds retractors, cuts sutures, and performs other tasks as directed by surgeon during operation. Effectively coordinates equipment, supplies and instrumentation according to surgeon’s preference cards. Functions competently within multiple specialty areas and serves in a flexible scrub role with minimal notice. Collaborates with circulating nurse to up-hold AORN standards as adopted by the Swedish Medical Center Policies and Procedures. Assists as necessary in holding retractors and cutting sutures.
Initiates and maintains accurate sponge, sharps and instrument counts as defined in policy and procedures.
Handles equipment appropriately and is familiar with operation and location of equipment. Maintains skills in use of specialized equipment.
Establishes and maintains good working relationships with all health team members. Handles specimens according to policy.
Helps others.
Coursework/Training: Certificate of completion of a surgical technician vocational program or documentation of equivalent training.

6 months Experience in a hospital operating room.
