The caregiver must be sufficiently fluent in the English language to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. Caregivers are expected to honor the Mission, Values, Vision and Promise and adhere to the Code of Conduct, policies and standards of their organization.
For direct patient care roles: Greets visitors, providing information and assistance as needed. Answers call lights, alarms and phone calls, providing patient assistance as appropriate. Issues visitor passes/Identification per unit protocols. Prepares a paper chart and prints stickers from electronic medical record for each new patient. Orders prior medical records when necessary. Collaborates with nurse and other team members to organize and prioritize functions necessary for patient admission and care delivery.
Electronic Medical Record “EMR”:
Reviews orders for upcoming tests, procedures and communicates priority to nursing staff. Makes minor changes as needed i.e. unit collect vs. Ensures downtime computer is on and checklists are complete. Runs reports and audits as requested by unit manager or designee. Use computer, telephone or requisition to enter physician orders, diagnostic tests or other procedures. May act as a resource for the EMR for staff and physicians.
Environment of Care & Regulatory Readiness:
Participates in the education of patient/families to unit practices/routines and orients patients to unit per protocols. Rounds the unit in accordance with department regulatory standards i.e. keeps hallways clear, equipment plugged in. Keep work area clean and clutter free. Posts signs, i.e. hand hygiene, NPO, free water restriction etc., Reinforces with patients isolation protocols and communicates concerns to the nursing staff. Actively participates in unit, department, and system-wide educational activities including Quality Improvement programs as appropriate.
Gives report to relief staff, including items that require follow up. Assigns papers and locators to nursing staff. Enters patient assignments/acuities into acuity system, as directed by nursing staff. Maintains unit worksheets and records. Inventories education brochures and office supplies, and orders as appropriate. Communicates with other hospital departments regarding concerns with faulty equipment, work orders or others issues. Responsible for restocking supplies after use, maintains appropriate core stocking levels. including MSC and Nutrition, works with manager or designee to improve unti and individual routines to assure adequate room supply without excess or depletion. Performs other duties as assigned, to insure effectiveness of care delivery and unit function.
Activities in support of and providing direct patient care:

Works under supervision of the RN to provide care and service to patients and their families. Adheres to emergency policies and procedures associated with patient care.
Appropriately communicates and documents all daily activities and care provided to patient. Communicates and documents unusual and complex issues and changes in patient condition in a timely manner. Communicates and documents such actions accurately and legibly.

Provides patient care as directed by team RN and within scope of practice. Duties performed may include, but are not limited to: making and changing beds, assisting with ADL’s, vital signs including oximetry, urinary catheter care and removal, Intake & Outputs, ambulation assistance, assisting patients to the bathroom, assisting patients with using a bedpan, assisting with pericare, assisting the patient with feeding, and performing chemstrip functions.
Maintains quality control logs such as for urine dip-sticks, glucose controls, temperature log-book, and medication refrigerator temperatures.
Competently performs assigned technical skills (i.e. bladder scans for PVR’s, specimen collection and testing, traction and trapeze equipment setup, glucose monitoring, dressing changes, Oxygen Saturation, listening to pulse, printing monitor strips, etc.).
Able to perform the role of Patient Safety Attendant (PSA) as directed, by ensuring patient safety, taking responsibility for the environment of care and communicating with RN/charge RN/designee of changes to patient condition in a timely manner. Duties include performing patient care activities, and safety checks that align with system standard of care. Washington Nursing Assistant Certification License.
6 months Acute care experience.
~1 year Skilled nursing experience.
~ Acute or skilled experience will be waived if the applicant has demonstrated experience involving customer service in healthcare or other related industry and completion of an acute care NAC course.
~ Acute or skilled experience will be waived for students currently enrolled and in good standing at a traditional registered nursing program approved by the Nursing Quality Care Commission. At a minimum, satisfactory completion of one academic term (quarter or semester) that included clinical patient care experience is required.
~ Previous experience using electronic medical record
