Specialty Medical Staffing has an exciting new direct hire opportunity for a Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse (RN) -- Charge RN in Hauppauge, NY We are currently interested in candidates for a permanent role, but the client may consider a contract during their candidate search.
Specialty Medical Staffing is one of the premier healthcare staffing companies nationwide. Hours: Monday-Friday, day shift, no major holidays - 250-300 cases per month 
Spine and Joint - 4 operating rooms
Experience: At least 1 year of leadership experience and 3-5 years Surgical Services experience preferred at outpatient surgery center
Graduate of an accredited nursing program with BSN
Job Summary: The role of the Charge Nurse in an operating room provides leadership, guidance, supervision, and support to the Surgical Services team; as well as direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles as needed. In addition to general nursing care, responsibilities of OR nurses and Charge Nurse include (but are not limited to):
Displays commitment to the mission of the Surgery Center and its values.
• Accomplish nurse human resource objectives by selecting, orienting, educating, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining team members, communicating job expectations and adhering to policies and procedures.
• Fosters an environment that promotes a spirit of inquiry and continuous quality improvement. Assists in the design and implementation of programs with evaluating the efficacy of treatment.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with accrediting and regulatory agencies.
• Promote, monitor, and implement the concepts of quality management and evidence-based practice. Monitor service areas, recommend approaches for improvement activities, design new processes, collect and measure data, review, and report performance over time, improve and redesign processes based on the evaluation and continuously reassess.
• Provide programmatic leadership of the clinical component of assigned areas to ensure quality patient care outcomes.
• Develop and implement goals, standards, policies, educational programs, procedures, and practices of clinical care in alignment with strategic plan.
• Monitor and respond to situations that affect daily operations.
• Assist in the development and implementation of departmental retention strategies, recruitment, selection, and discipline of department personnel. Assure availability of appropriate education to develop and maintain staff competence.
• Handle patient complaints/other issues as they arise.
• Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary professional staff.
• Demonstrates ability to stay calm, function with purpose and react appropriately in all situations.
• Demonstrates adherence to infection control policies and correct hand washing/scrubbing technique.
• Demonstrates adherence to safety policies.
• Demonstrates quality and effective communication with all team members.
