Summary

The Residential Staff Psychiatrist position is responsible for the medical oversight of the McAuliffe Center Co-Occurring Program. He/She works with the Program Director and clinical team to provide assessment, diagnosis, medication management, treatment planning, and consultation to ensure quality of care delivered to clients within the program. The provider of such services should be knowledgeable about addiction treatment, especially pharmacotherapies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct client psychiatric evaluations, assessments, and medication management sessions.
  • Consult with clinical staff regarding referral of patients for psychiatric evaluation for psychotropic medication, medication assisted treatment for substance use, and/or other courses of treatment.
  • Ensure adherence to ASAM guidelines in care determinations and treatment plans.
  • Educate clinical staff regarding assessment, evaluation, intervention, and treatment best practices.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings as required.
  • Document all client clinical care in the electronic medical record in a timely manner and in accordance with agency standards, state and federal regulations, DSS and ASAM guidelines, and requirements of third-party payers.
  • Maintain and provide appropriate information and documentation to support timely and accurate billing, and participate in utilization reviews as needed.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to develop, review and update/modify client treatment plans.
  • Participate in peer review with other medical staff members.
  • Provide medication management including medication assisted treatment to clients as warranted if it is a determined part of their treatment plan.
  • Clinically supervise medical and nursing staff working in the department.
  • Complete all required internal and external trainings within required timeframes.
  • Meet and contribute to agency outcomes and performance measures.
  • Adhere to state and federal regulations, DSS and ASAM requirements, and standards of accreditation, facility licensure and funding sources.
  • Maintain all licenses and certifications.
  • Utilize therapeutic modalities in both group and individual settings and manage client crises.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:

Knowledge Of:

  • Medication assisted therapies
  • Psychopharmacology for co-occurring disorders
  • Electronic Healthcare Record systems.
  • General office software, particularly Microsoft Office Suite.

Ability To:

  • Consult and educate staff on best clinical practices
  • Interact effectively with staff, clients and referral agencies
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Maintain productivity standards

Education and Experience:

  • Active Connecticut Medical licensure and certification to practice addiction psychiatry.
  • Active ability to prescribe suboxone
  • Experience treating individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders

Other:

  • Must be dependable and reliable; detailed oriented; and able to interface easily with clients, staff, and referral sources.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle
  • Position requires climbing stairs and the ability to lift 20 lbs or more
  • May need to travel to other CTR locations
  • Must successfully complete the introductory probationary employment period.
  • Must have a valid CT drivers license.
