Lewis 2 is a 22 bed Geri Psych/Behavioral Health Unit for patient population 55+. We provide a vibrant activities program along with special group sessions and programming to provide support. A special group room houses musical instruments, art supplies and other items to engage individual patient strengths and interests. Psychiatrists, Registered Nurses, Social Workers, Case Managers, Milieu Therapists and Nursing Assistants.
The Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for planning and providing patient care for patients in accordance with established Nursing Standards of Care. The Registered Nurse demonstrates the ability to effectively manage patients by assuming full responsibility for the assessment, plan, implementation and evaluation of nursing care and is directly reports to a designated nurse manager and/or clinical manager / off shift manager.
Elicits others advice and perspectives including that of the patient and participates fully in interdisciplinary forums that promote an integrated approach to patient care, e.g. multidisciplinary rounds, team meetings
• Access appropriate resources to advocate for and optimize patient care considers the interests of all team members, making choices that best benefit patient family Advocacy and Moral Agency
• Understands the concepts of accountability for own nursing practice able to recognize basic ethical
• Demonstrates emotional intelligence, i.e., Provides patient centered care with sensitivity and respect for the diversity of human experience
• Communicates patient values, preferences and expressed needs to health care team
• Assesses the impact of cultural beliefs and systems on patient responses to care
• Consistently collects and interprets patient data from all available sources
• Sets plan of care priorities based on identified patient needs and uses appropriate technologies in the process of assessing and monitoring patients and documenting care collaborates with interdisciplinary team to plan for multiple complex patient care
Recognizes changing patient conditions and responds immediately
• Uses QI tools and methodologies to assess performance and identify gaps between current unit & best practice related to key clinical outcome measures
Considers system resources available in the practice area when developing the plan of care for a patient or group of patients
• Brings issues of concern at the practice area level to the attention of others when assistance is needed to facilitate resolution
• Demonstrates understanding that care and services are delivered in a variety of settings along a care continuum
• Recognizes how to obtain resources beyond those of the unit and does so on behalf of patients/families as needed Identifies and works to remove barriers that block the delivery of reliable customer service
Actively engages as a “super user” or “unit champion” during roll out of new products equipment, processes, e.g., EPIC, rounding, code chill, etc .
• Seeks out opportunities to learn, teach and positively influence others and advance practice using quality improvement methodologies and current evidence/data
• Embraces continuous improvement, is flexible and open to new ideas
• Participates in activities that help formulate solutions to unit ineffectiveness and/or failures that impact patient care, e.g., recommends change in policies and procedures through appropriate
• Participates in change process to improve patient care, the work environment, and patient and staff satisfaction
• Acts as an effective role model and resource for students and ancillary staff
Adheres to regulatory requirements, e.g., DPH, TJC, DMH, Medicare, etc
• Adheres to department documentation standards and uses data from electronic record to guide patient care
• Uses available technologies to support and enhance patient care, e.g., smart pumps, call bell system, EPIC reports, smart phrases, acuity tools, etc
Demonstrates appropriate procedural /technical competence specific to practice area ( Unit / Clinic Specific Competencies & required certifications and work experience)

AHA or ARC BLS Healthcare Provider
