The Senior Principal, Head of Investment Operations located in Boston will be responsible for overseeing all operational activities to support our alternatives sub advisory middle and back-office operations. This includes managing the operational portfolio setup lifecycle for new and existing portfolios, both internally and with services providers and ensuring connectivity for trading, cash reporting, valuation, and reconciliations. Once established, this individual will design, implement, and oversee all operational activities to ensure timely and accurate portfolio information for our investment team from trade execution to settlement and confirmation. As a new role and a new team, it is expected that this senior individual will work with a start-up mentality until the team is up and running and then will be supported by a junior staff member. This is an individual contributor role with senior leadership responsibilities. At the onset, the individual will primarily be an individual contributor using their management skills to build, design and implement new processes and support those functions. As the team expands, this role may include managing a team of Analysts and Associates. Specific responsibilities are included below.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience in portfolio or fund operations working with daily valued and monthly valued fund structures with specific operational knowledge in private equity, co-investments, secondaries and private debt investments. Direct experience supporting investment portfolios within 40 Act mutual funds is required and experience with tender offer and interval funds is a plus. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate their expertise across various portfolio operations activities as well and will be expected to be flexible and willing to contribute to the firm’s continued success.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Responsible for the oversight and leadership of our sub advisory investment operations, consisting of private equity funds, hedge funds and 40Act funds.
  • Oversee, manage and be accountable for all operational responsibilities of the team including: trade capture, documentation and communication, cash forecasting including capital activity, reconciliation and valuations.
  • Adhere and ensure investment compliance with all regulatory requirements for our portfolios including supporting the investment team with investment guidelines monitoring.
  • Assume operational lead in new portfolio launches ensuring all internal and external setups are established prior to launch and maximizing automation with third parties.
  • Act as a project leader for strategic operational projects related to our sub advisory business activities such as new custom solutions and extending our partnerships.
  • Design and improve the control environment for investment operations and reporting in coordination with technology team and transformation office.
  • Participate and lead presentations – collection and design of presentation materials and work closely with business stakeholders to align on messaging.
  • Lead a team of operations professionals, promoting an inclusive environment, providing coaching and monitoring performance based on clear objectives, goals and targets.
  • Evaluate end to end workflow of investment operations to build scale, improve service, and position our operations to support the growth of the business.
Qualifications

As a fast growing, 350+ person company, we seek someone who is dynamic, detail oriented, and comfortable managing multiple tasks at once. The candidate must possess an outstanding track record of expertise and accomplishments and strong interpersonal, project management and communication skills.

  • Experience (15+ years) in middle or back-office operations within fund management or fund administration with experience in alternative assets and registered products (40 Act Funds) is required.
  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or other related area; advanced degree and/or credentials, or progress towards, such as MBA, CPA, CFA, or CAIA Designation is a plus
  • Exceptional communication, both written and verbal and attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven track record of managing operational teams with exceptional results.
  • Comfort with data analysis and strong technical acumen, specifically in Microsoft Excel and Word. Experience with PowerBI or other visualization tools a plus.
  • Highly motivated and proactive, anticipates what should be done to drive the business forward.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills; ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and take responsibility for all aspects of a task. 
  • Team player who is comfortable working in an entrepreneurial company.
  • Proven ability to multi-task and work both independently and as a team player in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
  • Willingness to learn new topics and work in an evolving business environment.
  • Organized and detail oriented with big picture capability.
