In order to treat the most critical patients in the most thorough manner, critical care nurses use their specialized skills and extensive knowledge of disease pathology to provide interventions that sustain life.
About this unit:
The Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) is a fast paced, high acuity, team-work based unit focused on the care of the cardiac patient.
Nurses are responsible for the medical management and post procedure care of the acute cardiac patient.
Nurses maintain multiple advanced competencies (pacemaker, Swan-Ganz catheter, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump-IABP, Impella, Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation-ECMO, and Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy-CRRT) while caring for this acutely-ill patients
Under the general direction of the Director or Manager, coordinates and provides patient care and assumes individual responsibility and accountability for the provision of nursing care. Nursing care is provided in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, applicable state Nursing Practice Acts, ANA Standards of Practice, and the generic and unit structure standards.
The Staff Nurse in CVICU provides care for newborn/pediatric patients between 2 weeks to 11 years of age; adult patients between 18 to 64 years; Adaptable and flexible with the ever changing acuity and census. Graduate of school of nursing required.
Has successfully completed one year of experience on a Medical Surgical Unit or Telemetry.

Our hospital is a premier area destination for Women's & Children’s healthcare services. We offer the region’s only Maternal Fetal Health Center to care for critically ill mothers and their babies. Our hospital has an antepartum unit, a labor and delivery unit, and a Level III NICU. We have four emergency rooms, including a dedicated Pediatric emergency room and two freestanding ERs located in Olathe and Shawnee.
