A Sonographer is a diagnostic ultrasound professional who is qualified by professional credentialing, academic, and clinical experience to provide diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. The scope of practice of the diagnostic medical sonographer includes those procedures, acts, and processes permitted by law, for which the individual has received education and clinical experience. This person must demonstrate competency and has completed the appropriate ARDMS certification(s) which is the standard of practice in ultrasound.
Responsibilities of the Ultrasound MFM Technologist
Recognize sonographic characteristics of normal and abnormal tissues, structures, and blood flow; adjust scanning technique to optimize image quality and spectral waveform characteristics; analyze sonography findings throughout the course of the examination so that a comprehensive exam is completed and sufficient data is provided to the physician
Minimize patient exposure to acoustic energy without compromising examination quality and/or completeness.
Document clearly, concisely, and completely as well as documenting diagnostic and patient data in the appropriate record, according to established policy and procedure.
Qualifications of the Ultrasound MFM Technologist
Graduate of an educational program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or minimum one year obstetrics (OB) experience.
Associates Degree or higher in related technological field. Credentials with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)
Current certification with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) registered in OB within one year of hire.
RDMS in Fetal Echocardiography (FE) must be obtained within two years of hire. David’s North Austin Medical Center is a multi-specialty hospital in Texas with more than360 beds. The facility is home to St. David’s Children’s Hospital , St. David’s Women’sCenter of Texas featuring a Level III NICU, a Kidney Transplant Center, and the Texas Institute for Robotic Surgery . Additional services offered at this medical center include 24-hour emergency care, heart and vascular care, neurology and neurosurgery, rehabilitation services, and inpatient and outpatient surgery.
