Description

Job Summary:

The Hospitalist, in collaboration and consultation with physicians, staff RNs, and other health care professionals, will provide holistic, compassionate care to inpatients and their families. The Hospitalist will manage the care of patients hospitalized with complex acute health problems. The Hospitalist will be a member of the hospital's interdisciplinary team and facilitate a continuum of care for patients from admission through the discharge process. This includes facilitating consults, making referrals to physicians and other members of the health care team as appropriate, and ensuring the patient's transfer of care back to the primary care provider.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Providing excellent patient care.
  • Performs history, physical examination, clinical evaluation and diagnosis of patients.
  • Assesses patients using physically and technologically derived data, including the evaluation of diagnostic test results and documents assessments in the patient record. Recognizes normal and abnormal findings.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies.
  • Completes admissions from the Emergency Department as well as Direct admissions, Swingbed admissions and transfers from other hospitals.
  • Assists and responds to rapid response calls and code blue events on the assigned inpatient units.
  • Writes progress notes and communicates with other caregivers, including utilizing the electronic health record.
  • Plans and coordinates patients discharge, rehabilitation, home health care, and follow-up.
  • Completes Discharge orders and summary.
  • Compliant with Quality measures, eRX, and HCAHPS.
  • Participates and leads daily round table with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Actively participates in performance improvement and quality improvement QI activities, attends committee and management meetings, as appropriate.
  • Utilizes Voalte messaging system for HIPAA compliant communication.
  • Provides timely and accurate completion of medical and billing records.


Requirements

Professional Requirements:
  • Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean
  • Maintains regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
  • Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized time system correctly.
  • Attends committee meetings; reads and returns meeting minutes.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicates the mission, vision, core values, ethics and goals of the hospital. Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments and staff.
  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire safety and infection control.
Regulatory Requirements:
  • M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited medical school
  • Valid M.D. or D.O. license in Kansas
  • Certification in BLS and ACLS
  • Active DEA license
  • Experience with hospital medicine required
  • 1-3 years of hospitalist experience preferred
  • Current liability coverage
