Description

This physician leader position is charged with developing, promoting, and maintaining highest quality of professional services at the Skyland Trail Adult Campus. In addition to assessing and treating a caseload of individual patients, the Medical Director of Adult Services will help lead the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation program, supervise professional staff at the Adult Campus, and strategically partner with other leaders to identify and operationalize existing and new services. The psychiatric physician in this position will partner closely with the Chief Medical Officer to ensure that Skyland Trail programs and services dovetail with the organization's strategic goals and mission, and that the quality of services parallels expected excellence and fiduciary responsibility of all programs and services.

Duties:

The Medical Director of Adult Services will have time/effort allocation divided into several key areas, including: intensive service patient care, neuromodulation, nutrition, and management/mentoring of professional staff. As census numbers shift and the needs of the psychiatric team change, the investment in these services will also evolve.

Serve as leader of Adult Psychiatric Services program
  • Supervise staff psychiatric physicians and assist with supervision of adult dietitian and Wellness Clinic providers. As a supervisor for these positions, provide regular supervisory consultation with named professionals using direct observations and other feedback to mentor and cultivate the expertise and professionalism of each staff person.
  • Assist with leadership of Clinical Supervision, a weekly educational opportunity for staff.
  • Collaborate with Adult Clinical leadership to improve current services and develop, operationalize, and expand new service lines.
  • Work with Medical Director of Adolescent Services and Medical Director of Admissions to cultivate a collaborative, unified culture of medical leadership across campuses.
  • Assist in recruiting candidates for vacant positions as needed and provide outstanding onboarding and training for new and current supervisees.
Individual assessment and treatment of intensive services patients
  • Serve as psychiatric team leader at the adult campus, setting a standard for evidence-based practice, team leadership, process development and improvement, and professional conduct.
  • Provide psychiatric care and interdisciplinary team leadership for a caseload of patients to comprise roughly 20-25% of overall effort, subject to change as agreed upon with CMO.
  • Attend and contribute to weekly interdisciplinary treatment team meetings from the perspective of an individual psychiatrist and also a leader of the adult psychiatric program.
  • Share phone call responsibilities for after-hours emergencies as part of the psychiatric physicians' on-call rotation (no in-person assessments required).
Neuromodulation
  • With CMO, oversee the delivery of TMS therapy to qualifying patients, including managing the training and performance of the TMS technician.
  • Complete TMS training with device manufacturer and conduct intake assessments, initial TMS sessions, and follow-up sessions/check-ins, as needed.
  • Work with CMO to further develop Skyland Trail's TMS service line, including evaluating and implementing TMS for new indications and strategizing to improve access to current offerings.
  • With CMO, market TMS services within the community in effort to cultivate referrals to TMS from local providers in addition to Skyland Trail psychiatrists.

  • Working knowledge of budgeting, organizational management, and marketing efforts
  • Expertise in completing psychiatric diagnostic assessments and ongoing medication management and psychotherapies for patients with primary mood, psychotic, anxiety disorders as well as patients with comorbid addiction, personality disorders, or other psychiatric conditions
  • Able to complete documentation in complete and timely manner in electronic record
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent managerial and mentoring skills
  • Strong oral and written skills with ability to effectively communicate
  • Ability to support recovery teams in community and at agency
  • Exhibits professional conduct at all times

Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Board certification in psychiatry as determined by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
  • At least three years' practice experience after psychiatry residency completion
  • Active, unrestricted MD or DO licensure verified by the State of Georgia Composite Board of Medical Examiners
