The Senior Data Security Engineer is a key member of the Information Security department, focusing on data governance, data discovery, data inventory, and data encryption. This position is responsible for supporting and maintaining the security of the organization's sensitive data throughout its lifecycle. The engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring that data is properly classified, encrypted, and managed according to best practices and compliance requirements. As a senior member of the team, this role will provide technical guidance to junior engineers and collaborate across departments to enhance the organization's data security posture.
**Lead the design, implementation, and management of data governance frameworks, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations and internal policies.
- Develop and maintain data discovery and classification processes to identify and categorize sensitive data across the organization.
- Build and manage a comprehensive data inventory, ensuring accurate tracking of all data assets and their associated security controls.
- Implement and manage encryption technologies to protect data at rest, in transit, and during processing, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Collaborate with business and technical teams to integrate data security practices into application development and data management processes.
- Conduct security risk assessments focusing on data protection, identifying potential vulnerabilities, and recommending mitigation strategies.
- Establish and enforce data handling and retention policies, ensuring secure and compliant storage, usage, and disposal of data.
- Monitor and analyze data access patterns to detect and respond to unauthorized data activities, working closely with incident response teams.
- Stay informed of emerging trends, threats, and technologies in data security, and continuously assess the organization's data security strategy for improvements.
- Provide training and guidance to team members on data security best practices, ensuring consistent application across the organization.
- Participate in third-party assessments related to data security, ensuring that vendors and partners meet the organization's data protection standards.

*Strong expertise in data classification, discovery, and governance tools and methodologies.
- Proficiency in encryption technologies, key management, and secure data storage solutions.
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements related to data security (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA) and experience implementing compliant data protection measures.
- Ability to conduct data security risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a strong focus on protecting sensitive data.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across multiple teams and communicate complex data security concepts effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of sensitive data.
- Self-motivated and proactive in identifying opportunities to improve the organization’s data security posture.
