Responsibilities
The Nurse Practitioner Physiatry is responsible for utilizing training and skills to provide direct outpatient care under
the supervision of a physician. The Nurse Practitioner Physiatry is qualified to assess, diagnose, and treat
neurological/neurosurgical disorders. The Nurse Practitioner Physiatrys primary responsibilities include, but are not
limited to the following: performing clinic consultations for pre-operative, post-operative and non-operative
neurosurgical patient.

ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
? Obtain medical histories when necessary.
? Perform physical exams (within established protocol).
? Diagnose, treat and monitor acute and chronic diseases (within protocol guidelines).
? Order diagnostic tests.
? Prescribe or recommend medications for prescription for medications and treatment (within protocol
guidelines).
? Order Interventional Spine procedures, as indicated (within protocol guidelines)
? Promote positive lifestyle habits to all patients through education and counseling.
? Assure the supervising physician reviews and signs off 20% of charts.
? Maintain patients privacy and confidentiality.
? Work closely with nurses to assure patient flow is efficient.
? Consult with the supervising physician regarding patient symptoms, to assure proper diagnosis and plan of
treatment.
? Provide comprehensive teaching to patients and families.
? Responds to patient telephone calls (within clinic protocol timeframe)
? Adjudicates incoming referrals (within clinic protocol)
? Communicates with referring providers, as necessary
? Reviews diagnostic testing results such as labs and imaging reports (within clinic protocol timeframe)
? Completes paperwork such as FMLA and disability requests (within clinic protocol timeframe)
? Oversees clinical data collection (ie for quality improvement or database reporting)
? Conducts relevant research.
? Participate in quality improvement.
? Attends meetings as requested.
? Responds to emergency situations in an appropriate manner.
? May include clinic on-call responsibly to be adjudicated remotely
? Assists in the training and development of support staff (ie nurses, medical assistants and receptionists)
? Evaluation and management of minor procedural complications and escalates to physician
? appropriately, as indicated
? Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
~ Master's degree in nursing
~3-5 years clinical nursing practice in an acute care setting


Required Licensure and Certifications
Certified Nurse Practitioner
Certificate of Fitness through American Academy of Nurse Practitioners
Licensed as RN in states of TN/GA or hold compact RN license in state of residency
Licensed as APRN in state of TN
BLS

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training
1-3 years previous experience as a Nurse Practitioner in an acute or primary care setting with Neurology experience or equivalent RN experience
Pay Range
$45.96 - $54.92 /hour
