Diagnostic Testing: Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including neuroimaging studies (MRI, CT scans), electroencephalograms (EEG), nerve conduction studies (NCS), electromyography (EMG), lumbar punctures, and genetic testing, to establish accurate diagnoses and guide treatment decisions.
Treatment Planning: Develop individualized treatment plans based on diagnostic findings, patient history, symptom severity, and functional impairment, utilizing a combination of medical management, lifestyle modifications, rehabilitation therapies, and surgical interventions when necessary.
Prescribe and manage medications commonly used in the treatment of neurological disorders, including anticonvulsants, analgesics, muscle relaxants, corticosteroids, disease-modifying agents, and symptomatic therapies, while monitoring for efficacy, side effects, and drug interactions.
Neurological Procedures: Perform specialized neurological procedures, such as lumbar punctures, nerve blocks, botulinum toxin injections for spasticity or dystonia, and deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery for movement disorders, in collaboration with surgical teams as appropriate.
Educate patients and their families about their neurological conditions, treatment options, prognosis, and self-management strategies, providing clear and compassionate communication to empower patients in making informed healthcare decisions.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including neurosurgeons, neurologists subspecializing in areas such as epilepsy, stroke, or neuromuscular disorders, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and psychologists, to provide integrated and multidisciplinary care for patients with complex neurological conditions.
Research and Clinical Trials: Participate in clinical research studies, academic initiatives, and clinical trials investigating new treatments, medications, or interventions for neurological disorders, contributing to advancements in the field and improving patient care outcomes.
Provide neurological consultations and management for patients in emergency department settings, including stroke alerts, status epilepticus, neurotrauma, and other acute neurological emergencies, ensuring timely evaluation and intervention to optimize patient outcomes.
Continuing Education: Stay updated on advancements in neurology, evidence-based practices, clinical guidelines, and emerging technologies through participation in continuing medical education (CME) activities, conferences, and professional development opportunities.

Medical Degree: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school.
Residency Training: Completion of a residency program in Neurology accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or equivalent training program, encompassing comprehensive training in the diagnosis and management of neurological disorders.
Board certification or eligibility in Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) or equivalent certifying body, demonstrating proficiency and expertise in the practice of neurology.
Valid and unrestricted medical license to practice as a physician in the state of employment, complying with state licensing requirements and continuing medical education obligations.
Demonstrated clinical competence in evaluating and managing patients with a wide range of neurological conditions, including stroke, epilepsy, movement disorders, multiple sclerosis, neuromuscular disorders, headache disorders, dementia, and neurodegenerative diseases.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients, families, caregivers, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams, conveying complex medical information in a clear, empathetic, and culturally sensitive manner.
Adaptability: Flexibility and adaptability to work in diverse clinical settings, including outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, emergency departments, and telemedicine platforms, adjusting clinical practice to meet the evolving needs of patients and healthcare systems.
Adherence to professional standards of ethics, integrity, and patient confidentiality in all aspects of medical practice, research, and academic endeavors, maintaining trust and respect within the medical community and among patients.
