EMPLOYER:Waukon Feed Ranch, Inc. JOB TITLE:Animal Scientist (multiple openings) JOB LOCATION:615 Old Hwy 9, Waukon, IA 52172 JOB DUTIES: Responsible for developing, implementing, and managing animal health and reproduction programs for commercial swine operation. Specific duties include: (1) developing, implementing, and managing animal health and welfare, including administering vaccinations of sows and piglets, examining animals to detect symptoms of illness or injury, and treating sick, injured, or lame animals; (2) developing, implementing, and managing animal reproduction programs, including performing artificial insemination, detecting heat and pregnancy, selecting animals for farrow, monitoring/assisting sows during labor, and analyzing reproductive efficiencies; (3) as necessary, euthanizing animals using company-approved techniques; (4) developing, evaluating, and managing daily activities and processes related to iso-wean pig production including gilt development, breeding, gestation, and farrowing; (5) performing timely and accurate recordkeeping of animal health and reproduction activities; (6) maintaining biosecurity policies and procedures. REQUIREMENTS: Two years of livestock industry experience, including specific experience in swine reproduction and health. Frequent travel to unanticipated company sites in Northern Iowa, Southern Minnesota, and Wisconsin.
