Overview:

DEFINITION OF POSITION: A Hospitalist is responsible for assuming primary responsibility for inpatients admitted to the Good Shepherd Medical Center by the Emergency Department as well as those inpatients assigned to the Hospitalist after being admitted by other physicians. The Hospitalist retains this responsibility until discharge. Other duties include referrals, consultations, and assignment of inpatients to other physicians if the need for appropriate specialties arises, along with other duties typically performed by Hospitalists.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Providing Internal Medicine consultations, as requested by other physicians.
  2. Admit or assume care from other physicians, as requested.
  3. Admitting unassigned medical patients that come in, either through the ER or by direct referral from other physicians within the community that choose not to admit their own patients. (The hospital will hold those patients until the hospitalist can admit them). This would comprise the biggest volume of a Hospitalists day-to-day work.
  4. Providing oversight for cardiac rehab and pulmonary rehab programs.
  5. Chart review and responding to consultative questions by staff.
  6. Case management consultation and other activities.
  7. Interprets EKG readings.
  8. Provide pre-op assessments as requested.
  9. An extra pair of hands in the emergency room for critical medical patients.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS:

A. EDUCATION Requires graduation from an accredited medical school and completion of an Internal Medicine or Family Practice residency. Must be board certified or board eligible.

B. EXPERIENCECompletion of a Family Practice or Internal Medicine residency which included hospital inpatient experience.

C. LICENSE Must possess or be eligible for a license to practice medicine in Oregon and a valid DEA license.
