Position Summary:

Vallen's SCS Manager is responsible for collaborating with key business stakeholders to provide expertise with vendor managed inventory. Works with key business stakeholders in the management of capital expenditures (ie vehicle purchases, maintenance, or leases). Leads managers and/or supervisors in performing timely VMI activities and warehouse functions in assigned geographical areas. Develops and implements logistics plans, budgets, and procedures to maximize compliance ensuring customer needs are met within budget constraints. Provides financial reporting and reconciliation of inventories. Guarantees that inventory audits and cycle counts are performed, and solutions are found for inventory discrepancies. Enforces the driver qualification process for VMI associates in assigned markets. Ensures completion of preventative maintenance and adherence to standard process and procedures on vending hardware/software.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Staff management responsibilities include but are not limited to interviewing, selecting, hiring, coaching, counseling, and disciplining associates while enforcing company policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
  • Contributes to strategic planning, direction, and goal setting for the department or function.
  • Develops and implements policies, practices, and procedures that have a significant impact on the organization; ensures vendor managed inventory activities meet quality standards and service level agreements for goods or materials while company costs are minimized.
  • Leads on-going functional and/or system-related process improvement initiatives that contribute to the profitability of the company.
  • Collaborates with the Flexible Procurement Solutions team to ensure that VMI areas are set up in accordance with new customer expectations and Vallen standards.
  • Formulate techniques to ensure a symbiotic relationship with customers to eliminate or minimize supply chain inefficiencies as they relate to vendor managed inventory.
  • Liaises with sales to ensure inventory levels, new items for stock and new item setup forms and prior to submission to procurement.
  • Establishes the replenishment frequencies within assigned market, schedule operations to ensure productivity is maintained.
  • Facilitate the training of VMI leaders on vending machine repair and maintenance; ensuring that staff demonstrate the ability to assess issues with vending machines and take appropriate actions.
  • Evaluate the third party administrator (TPA) to ensure that Vallen's standards are maintained; ensuring driver qualifications are in accordance with Federal and State Department of transportation regulations.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Job Qualifications:

Education requirement: Bachelor's degree in SCM or related field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant warehouse, inventory (cycle) counting or delivery, experience. Associated degree in SCM or related field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience. High School diploma or equivalent (GED) and a min of 10 years of relevant VMI, warehouse, inventory (cycle) counting or delivery, experience.

  • Knowledge of system dynamics, bullwhip effect and vendor managed inventory principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the various warehousing functions, such as loading, unloading, picking, packing, shipping, and moving goods throughout a distribution center/warehouse environment; or demonstrated knowledge of various manufacturing operations functions, such as machine operations, materials management, production testing, engineering, and/or quality assurance and control.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, work orders, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong communication skills, effective problem-solving skills, demonstrated use of sound judgment, good organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstration of basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units to measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals); ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent preferred.
  • Ability to compile routine reports and write correspondence.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and be self-motivated to accomplish assigned tasks and goals.
  • Valid driver's license that complies with Vallen's standards.

  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand and may include little to no advanced notice.
  • Sitting, standing, walking, squatting/kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling, twisting/bending, lifting/carrying multiple times per shift, fingering, talking, hearing, and seeing.
  • May be required to lift and carry up to 75 pounds; must have the ability to handle physical inventory that requires hand dexterity.
  • May work in extreme hot or cold environments; various facilities may have dusty conditions.
