The Apprentice Signal Technician position earns competitive pay of $16.23/hr. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN APPRENTICE SIGNAL TECHNICIAN

As an Apprentice Signal Technician, you spend your day assisting with minor repairs of electrical, electronic and equipment. Your work typically is to perform basic testing and evaluation of traffic signal control equipment for system compatibility. Your job is essential to the city, you perform all routine maintenance required to ensure that the traffic signal systems are operating properly. You are constantly on your toes and ready for any new and unexpected challenges that may arise in the city. This can include maintaining pavement markings on city-owned parking facilities and all city streets, including lane channelization, traffic hazards, school-pedestrian crosswalks, railroad crossings and delineations. When you are not out in the city, you install traffic signs and removes signs no longer required. You enjoy being helpful and have no problem providing assistance and support to other divisions within the department as needed. The city needs someone like you with skills in traffic control and you finding genuine enjoyment in what you do

QUALIFICATIONS FOR AN APPRENTICE SIGNAL TECHNICIAN

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalency
    • Preferred: Community college, vocational, business, technical, or correspondence school certifications are likely sources
  • Must have knowledge of basic electronics, theory and knowledge of occupational hazards, and safety precautions of the electrical trade.
    • Preferred: One (1) year of related experience
  • Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
  • Achieve IMSA Level I Certification
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
