Overview

Princeton University Library (PUL) seeks an experienced and forward-thinking library coordinator to be responsible for the day to day operations of the Peter B. Lewis Science Library and the Engineering Library, including coordinating and communicating building maintenance, public services, and events for Princeton’s STEM departments and the broader campus community. In support of managing day to day operations, the Coordinator is responsible for hiring, training, and supervising 7-8 FTE, and indirectly supports student workers overseen by those FTE.

The Coordinator position will provide leadership in building management, circulation, reserves, collection maintenance, and supply purchasing as well as collaborating with units across PUL. Additionally, the position collaborates with the Head of Science and Engineering Public Services and Collections to develop and implement policies related to daily operations.

PUL is one of the world’s leading research libraries, with over 300 staff and several specialized branches, supporting a diverse community of 5,500 undergraduates, 3,100 graduate students, 1,200 faculty members, and many visiting scholars. Further information:

Responsibilities

Manage a team of 7-8 direct reports in support of Princeton University Library’s Mission, Vision, North Star statements, and DEI Statement. Direct Operational support for facility maintenance, security, and equipment. Supervises public services for the Peter B. Lewis Science Library and the Engineering Library, responding to patron questions and troubleshooting issues, as well as forwarding and referring to other staff and librarians as appropriate. Coordinates with student supervisors to assist in managing the public services student staff. Supports growth of services and fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment in the Lewis Science and Engineering Libraries.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and three years of supervisory experience in leading and managing teams, including leading teams, facilitating meetings, and providing guidance on project management Evidence of strong leadership skills with a demonstrated record of success in building culture and leading staff development initiatives Demonstrated commitment to the provision of high-quality public service Excellent interpersonal skills, project and time management skills, and the ability to work collaboratively and collegially with a diverse group of scholars and colleagues Excellent written and oral communication skills Comfort with rapidly changing expectations and guidelines for library services Experience with general/standard productivity tools, and learning new technologies as needed Ability to think creatively, work independently and collaboratively, and function effectively as part of a team Willingness to work flexible hours in order to accommodate services and programs as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in an academic library, STEM related preferred Knowledge of database applications and experience working with information management tools and concepts
