We are actively seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer with commercial diving experience to perform both structural inspections and design. The successful new hire will join our New York City (midtown Manhattan) office and local dive team. As the successful Engineer Diver, you will be working with a professional  engineering dive team that provides consulting services to clients – primarily in the New York area. Occasional travel to other areas throughout the U.S. and abroad will also be required but most evenings, you will be home. The principal function of this position is to be part of a team that evaluates marine structures and ports through above and underwater engineering inspections, follow-on report preparation and development of structural repair designs. We perform these inspections for states, municipalities, private clients, marine terminal operator, the US Navy and many more

Duties and responsibilities:

Performs site investigations of marine structures, bridges, and other infrastructure assets Ensures that the scope of work is fulfilled as directed and that the contracted deliverable is submitted out on schedule and as budgeted  Works collaboratively with all members of the inspection team and of other engineering disciplines  Analyzes deteriorated components of marine structures to assess load capacity  Prepares plans, specifications, cost estimates and supporting documentation  Assists with civil and structural design Performs other duties as required

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Civil, Structural Engineering or related discipline from an accredited university Engineer in Training (EIT) required Certified Commercial Diver - ADCI, HSE, DCBC, IMCA or ADAS NHI/NBIS bridge inspection qualifications a plus  2 to 5 years of related diving and inspection experience Possess a valid driver's license in good standing Ability and willingness to travel as required. Most work is local/regional; however travel can be up to 1 to 2 weeks in duration if needed Boater Safety Card preferred  Ability to obtain security clearances required by the US Navy strongly preferred Possession of or ability to obtain within a couple months of hire a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Current First Aid, CPR, AED, and Oxygen Administration certification preferred Selected candidate must consent to and a pass a post-off/pre-employment drug screening All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171 Moffatt & Nichol uses E-Verify and employment is contingent upon the legal ability to obtain employment in the U.S. and to present the required documentation at hire 

Base salary range:   

$83,000 to $101,000 based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting required qualification in job description. 

Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the New York City market.

Working conditions:  

The incumbent works in both the office and field:

Office work requires ongoing design work requiring focus Field work requires diving in waters and exposure to extreme elements Must be able to move among a variety of simultaneous priorities Some extended days, evenings, and weekend work requirements

Physical requirements:  

This role requires the incumbent to be in excellent physical condition:

ADCI (or equivalent) diving requires specific physical conditioning and strength Field work requires incumbent to carry diving and inspection equipment over unpaved, rural, and unmarked terrain The incumbent must be able to lift, carry, climb, and navigate in a small boat.
