Wilkes University invites applicants for a full-time, 12-month Assistant Professor in Early Childhood and Elementary Education serving the undergraduate education department. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the Early Childhood Education Pathway. This online degree completion pathway is designed specifically to make education accessible and affordable to a population of educators who seek training and credentials at the early childhood and elementary level, PK-4. The School of Education provides opportunities for students to grow academically, personally and professionally. The program promotes an appreciation for diversity and child development, as well as a regard for research-based and innovative practices. The ethics of service and dedication are expected of Teacher Education students to meet the unique needs of all students within the learning community.

The successful candidate is responsible for instruction of online early childhood and elementary education coursework with hybrid and face to face courses assigned as needed. Wilkes believes in partnerships in education to better serve each child and as a result is working with PACCA and community colleges to offer the T.E.A.C.H. scholarship to students. The successful candidate will coordinate the ECE pathway program, advise students enrolled in this program, and collaborate with early childcare centers across the state and beyond.

An earned doctorate in early childhood education, child development, elementary education, child and family studies, or a related discipline with experience in early childhood education organizations and statewide initiatives is required. Candidates will demonstrate successful collaboration with others, leadership in the field of early childhood education, and effective and inclusive communication skills. Effective experience in online course development and online teaching is required. Teacher certification and a minimum of three (3) years successful teaching experience in PK-4 is required.

Reading/Literacy Specialist Certification and experience teaching in higher education are preferred. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated interest in local and global education, an articulated scholarly research agenda with a high potential to progress on a tenure track path.
