The Role:
  • The Medical Assistant performs a variety of duties related to providing patient care.

Responsibilities:
  • Preparing examination rooms.
  • Triaging patients by obtaining a health history, checking vital signs.
  • Administering immunizations, injections, and collecting specimens including blood draws and nasal/pharyngeal swabs.
  • Running a variety of tests, including hearing, vision, blood, and other specimen tests.
  • Scoring developmental and behavior screening.
  • Assisting physicians and nurse practitioners with minor, in-office procedures.
  • Scheduling appointments.
  • Greeting families when they arrive.
  • Completing prior authorizations.
  • Processing medication refills.
  • Checking in and checking out patients.
  • Handling referrals.
  • Answering phone calls and sending messages to providers.
  • Documenting in patients' charts using our electronic medical records.
  • Assisting in other clerical duties, ie photocopying, faxing, scanning, mailing, verifying patient demographics and insurance information.

Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program with certification from a recognized national organization.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Prefer experience within a physician's office but not a requirement.
  • An excellent relationship with patients and co-workers.
