The Role

As the Head of Content, you will be responsible for a team made up of educational, editorial, and experiential content creators to develop and implement a multi-platform content strategy that engages and educates prospects and customers to make it easier for them to take action to improve their financial lives. This team sits within Fidelity’s marketing organization working closely with UX design, data scientists, and other marketing teams and business partners. You will set and drive the overarching content strategy and vision to help build awareness and recognition for Fidelity, its products, capabilities, and for providing useful tools to build Fidelity’s customer business. Lastly, you will establish and ensure the highest quality standards in content, presentation, and accuracy in all forms of media through all distribution channels.

Lead our 130 + member Content Team, which supports the enterprise and includes content strategists, writers, editors, copywriters, and other creatives to oversee a suite of engaging, social-first editorial products, crafted to build the brand and attract new customers.

Improve the use of language in our digital experiences to help people accomplish tasks, understand tough concepts, and make sound decisions with confidence and ease. This includes editorial and educational content creation that can be used on social channels and in campaigns.

Possess a keen sense for what makes compelling journalism and storytelling, taking complex and sometimes dry topics and making them clear and engaging.

Bring proficiency in various content mediums and channels, especially social, understanding when they should be used.

Bring experience with financial services and be capable of making progress in an environment where there are guardrails requiring attention (such as legal, compliance, and brand).

Align job responsibilities and staff skills to improve effectiveness and creativity, streamline processes and increase speed of content development.

Champion a creative and productive work environment with continuous feedback, mentorship, growth, and development opportunities.

Set and meet measurable internal success criteria and goals and develop content related metrics to oversee progress and support business goals.

Content Strategy and Vision

Set the editorial vision for individual investors across varied formats (website, microsites, videos, podcasts, infographics, education modules, newsletters, and webinars).

Serve as a change agent to enliven Fidelity’s content and voice to reach younger audiences without alienating Fidelity’s existing customer base.

Develop series, sections and programs for the Fidelity site which best organize existing work, as well as create new initiatives which keep the site vibrant and rich with updated content.

Explore thoughtful re-purposing and re-use of existing content, keeping a focus on relevant and timely subject matter for each audience.

Strive to offer a balance of varied content, including news to keep investors advised of the latest trends relevant to their financial lives, a range of internal and external voices both to educate and entertain, content to help guide customers through life events—all with the goal to become an essential and enjoyable destination for Fidelity’s diverse customer audience.

Distribution and Audience Engagement

Advance strategic partnerships with business partners to identify key content themes around which revenue streams can be diversified and improved.

Work closely with the UXD team to develop and implement UX content strategies to strengthen the quality of the user experience.

Stay current on the latest innovations in content design, formats, and delivery. Monitor the competitive landscape in fintech and general media to strive to be one of the most authoritative as well as engaging sources of financial advice at every life stage of our customers.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

The Head of Content will be a seasoned editorial executive who has demonstrated consistent success in content creation and leadership. They will be capable of adapting to and growing in a complex corporate environment, with an authoritative but collaborative manner, who is capable of persuading, engaging and inspiring both senior management and staff alike. Experience includes:

A senior leadership role in journalism or content at a premier media or corporate organization, leading a large editorial workload and creative team.

Finance experience a plus, and the passion to help our customers lead the lives they desire with Fidelity as a guide along the way.

Experience with online content creation across all existing formats and channels with an understanding of how to develop content that is consistent with the firm’s brand, mission, and goals.

Managerial expertise and the ability to excite, challenge, and inspire staff with innovative ideas, while simultaneously ensuring that quality standards, consistency and voice are maintained throughout.

Experience managing new program development or idea innovations from conceptualization through implementation with an interest/knowledge of the latest technology which can be used.

Demonstrated competency to impact and influence change while collaborating effectively internally and externally with individuals at all levels.

Experience demonstrating an entrepreneurial approach characterized by optimism and willingness to try new things, but mindful of the reality of institutional limits.

Confirmed ability, passion, and gravitas to be an extraordinary partner with high- powered executives and thought leaders with resourcefulness to integrate seamlessly into an environment with confidence, ideas, team spirit, and humor.

Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. Advanced degree or equivalent experience in Business, Journalism, English, or related field a plus.

Series 7 a plus.
