A Director in ASG’s South Asia practice is a member of client-facing teams and functions as the engagement manager for multiple workstreams. An essential glue for practices, they ensure that their teams collaborate and work effectively to service clients to a high standard. Directors take the lead in communications with client POCs and other external stakeholders and play a critical role in the practice's operations. They strive to leverage the expertise and networks of senior staff, as well as their own, to meet clients’ needs. With guidance from senior colleagues, a director drives and monitors the production and quality of ASG deliverables (e.g., country reports, stakeholder maps, market analyses, proposals), effectively owning the products. Director’s guide and act as a backstop for Senior Associates and Associates when needed.

Responsibilities Assists in managing ASG team members to service clients and produce agreed upon deliverables. Provides clear expectations and timelines to teammates. Supports less-experienced team members' professional development and works to identify additional development opportunities. Supports the practice by managing client and other stakeholder relationships, with senior staff supervision and guidance. Serves as a member of and may lead client-facing teams, focused on managing overall strategy and day-to-day internal coordination. Serves as driving force on client-related tasks and deliverables, both within their own practice and on cross-practice mandates, relaying mission critical information back to senior staff and other team members in a timely fashion. Coordinates with internal and external stakeholders to generate high-quality and value-added client deliverables. Identifies and solves issues as they arise, drawing on available resources. ensures that firm resources are deployed efficiently, effectively, and promptly. Proactively identifies ways to enhance engagement profitability. Prioritizes the continued development of geopolitical, regional, and sectoral/industry expertise (e.g., India, U.S.-India relations, industrial policy, technology policy, supply chain resilience). Proactively identifies and engages potential clients and monitors current client activity for potential expansion opportunities. Continues to develop professional networks to cultivate stakeholders and develop new business, while also fostering broader firm network through participation with associations, think tanks, and other civil society actors. Core Competencies Customer Service: Focuses on impeccable client service and value creation. Works to become a trusted partner to colleagues and clients, listening carefully to their priorities and investing the time to understand their business. Continuously works to develop substantive expertise to help meet client interests and needs. Oral/Written Communications: Can draft all or portions of written client product, with clear direction, at an elite level. Strong attention to detail is required. Supports senior staff or client leads to coordinate various work inputs and weave them into a product that will exceed the client’s expectations and deliver significant value. Minimum of five years of prior professional experience related to one (or more) South Asian countries (India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh), preferably including in international strategy consulting, global government relations, U.S. government (Executive or Congress), think tank, NGO / civil society, journalism, or comparable field. Bachelor’s degree in political science, international relations, public policy, business administration, or a related field. Advanced degree (Master’s, PhD, J.D., etc.) in a related field or an equivalent experience is a plus. Direct – and ideally current – business, political, government, legal, financial, or journalistic, or other relevant experience in South Asia or on regional issues. Exceptional writing and editing ability coupled with strong political and economic analytical skills, plus an ability to understand the impact of specific policy and regulatory developments on a client and their industry. Demonstrated experience managing complex projects in an organized and efficient manner. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, and Word), Microsoft Project, and other project management tools. A “doer” with a “no task too small” approach to the workplace.  Ability to navigate effectively in a growing and evolving organization, manage up and down with skill and tact, network effectively, and build trusted relationships.
