Pad Material Research Scientist

Job Description:

DuPont Chemical Mechanical Planarization (CMP) Technology group is seeking a Pad Material Research Scientist in Pad R&D team located in Newark, DE. The candidate will be responsible to develop innovative formulation and material technologies for DuPont’s industrial leading CMP Pad portfolio and drive fundamental understanding of product performance in target applications. The candidate will work in a cross functional team in partnership with Marketing, Process Development, Scale-up, Application, and Analytical Science to resolve a variety of CMP pad material and engineering related problems.

Key responsibilities are:

Develop innovative approaches to new material synthesis and processing to create novel polymeric materials with differentiated properties Develop structure-property relationships with advanced knowledge of scientific principles, experimental design, and advanced characterization Lead new product development and identification of new technology areas for DuPont CMPT’s innovative pipeline Collaborate with technical groups in R&D and manufacturing to facilitate the scale-up and commercialization of new products Document work in a timely fashion in data books, internal reports, patent disclosures, and external publications as appropriate Communicate results and progress to technical teams, management, and business leadership through written report and oral presentations Demonstrate behaviors that exemplify DuPont’s Core Values: Safety and Health, Respect for People, Highest Ethical Behaviors, and Protecting the Planet

This position has travel requirements of up to 10% globally.

Required Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Materials Science, Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or other related disciplines Strong background in polymer technology with proven record in synthesis and material development Demonstrated ability to examine structure-property relationships of polymer formulations Strong analytical and critical thinking with the ability to make data driven decisions and actionable recommendations Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Strong project management skills and ability to execute complex projects and navigate multiple priorities. Familiarity with a variety of analytical techniques, such as NMR, GPC, FT-IR, SEM, DMA, TGA, DSC, etc. Successful candidate should have strong collaborative R&D mindset

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum of 3 years product R&D experience with a successful customer engagement and product development record. Formulating with polymeric system is preferred. Experience in CMP or other semiconductor process technologies is preferred Experience in polyurethane manufacturing and/or product development Experience leading and driving complex technical projects to a successful completion Experience in Stage Gate type of new product development process Six sigma certification, experience in Design of Experiment principles and statistical data analysis
