Purpose

The Volunteer Specialist strengthens and nurtures CWS relationships with local welcome teams and individual volunteers in support of refugee resettlement and integration in the CWS Local Office. The Volunteer Specialist is primarily responsible for promoting sustained positive relationships with welcome teams and volunteers following the initial 30 days of support activities and providing up to 6 months of assistance, serving as a communication liaison between community members and case managers and addressing ongoing training needs of community volunteers as they actively engage with CWS and clients.

Responsibilities

Maintains ongoing relationships with welcome teams supporting clients through regular check-ins, email correspondence, and follow-up volunteer training events/activities; collaborates with community engagement staff to promote volunteer retention through appreciation events and practices. Develops trainings that identify best practices to help foster healthy communication in support of clients and their self-sufficiency goals. Advise welcome teams on communication and support activities as necessary. Liaises with community-based Welcome Teams, clients and case managers and provide guidance to stakeholders to ensure positive interactions. Helps relay questions specific to direct service to the appropriate team member and respond to welcome team concerns in a timely manner. Collaborates with community engagement staff to conduct follow-up orientation and trainings for volunteers and welcome teams as necessary, based on learning needs and reported challenges. Provides education on relevant cultural practices and prepares welcome teams for specific duties alongside case management support. Tracks training activities and contribute to required reports in a timely manner as required by each program funder and in accordance with funder’s expectations. Reports and advises the case management team on any issues arising from volunteer and client interactions and or volunteer service delivery. Follows-up with case management team when challenges to communication and coordination arise, lending support and guidance to help resolve any issues in a timely manner. Case notes support activities in client case file.

Additional Duties

Advocates for refugees, asylees, and entrants in Lancaster by developing educational materials and training that assists community leaders in promoting involvement and raising awareness about refugee and immigrant concerns. Develops a strong understanding of refugee and immigrant issues via trainings, webinars, media, books, publications, and reference tools, using current information to educate broader community about refugees and immigrants. Works varied hours, including possible night and weekend work. Supports the resettlement team with arrival pick ups and other resettlement services in times of high arrivals. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience is required.

Experience:

Experience in non-profit, social justice, community development, and volunteer management work are essential for this position. Demonstrated ability to work independently with a high level of comfort and skill interacting with partner organizations and coordinating people and resources. Ability to work in a multicultural environment required.

Other Skills:

Superior public speaking skills and strength in written communication. The successful candidate must be computer literate, with proficiency in MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, and Word) and internet applications required.

Special Requirements

Must have access to reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license with insurable record. Must be able to keep a clean driving record. This is an in-person position, with possibility of hybrid schedule
