In the Frontier Research group within Prescient Design in we are revolutionizing drug discovery with cutting-edge machine learning techniques. We are seeking exceptional researchers who have a demonstrated research background in machine learning, a passion for independent research and technical problem-solving, and a proven ability to develop and implement ideas from research.

The Opportunity

As an integral part of the team, you will be involved with the team’s mission to work on basic and applied problems in machine learning research, while also being able to collaborate closely with and–contribute uniquely to–many different project teams across the company. The group provides a dynamic, challenging environment for cutting-edge machine learning research including access to heterogeneous data sources, close links to top academic institutions around the world, as well as internal Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED) partners and research units.

You will participate in cutting-edge research and methods development in basic and applied machine learning, including robustness, fairness, and interpretability.

You will provide technical leadership in machine learning, driving and shaping research directions in Frontier Research, Prescient Design, and broadly across gRED.

You will be expected to contribute to and drive publications, and present results at internal and external scientific conferences.

Who you are

You have a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

You have a strong publication record and experience contributing to research communities, including conferences like NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AISTATS, etc.

You have strong programming skills in languages like C/C++, Python, and Java.

You have experience with one or more of the following: PyTorch, JAX.

Preferred

You have an extensive track record of delivering innovative solutions in machine learning, strong communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences as well as interfacing with scientific and engineering leadership

You have experience collaborating with external scientific partners, such as academic institutions or industry research groups

You have a passion for solving complex technical problems and a commitment to staying up-to-date with the latest developments in machine learning.

Relocation benefits are available for this posting

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of New York is $144,900 to $269,100 of hiring range. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
