The UCSB Central Coast Community Labor Project invites applications for the position of Academic Coordinator.

The Academic Coordinator is supervised by the Community Labor Project Executive Director and will liaise with the Blum Center on Poverty, Inequality, and Democracy, ISBER (Institute for Social, Behavioral, and Economic Research), the Offices of the Deans of Social Sciences and Humanities and Fine Arts, and academic departments that share responsibility for administering and staffing the interdisciplinary minor in Labor Studies. The position provides administrative and program support for the Central Coast Community Labor Project’s curricular, research, and communication/public outreach activities, as well as its overall management, as follows:

Academic Programming

Provide administrative support for the interdisciplinary minor in Labor Studies. Assistance with the internship component of the minor, including student placements, programming related to community-engaged, experiential learning and ongoing liaison with internship providers. Student advising, outreach and information sessions. Prepare reports and updates for the Community Labor Project Advisory Committee

Research Development/Administration

Planning, administrative, and logistical assistance in support of research related to the Community Labor Project, including baseline research on the state of labor on the Central Coast and other faculty-led research, assistance with administering and monitoring faculty/student grants, workshops, and campus/community outreach activities.

Labor Summer Program

Assist with coordinating Labor Summer, an eight-week internship program for UCSB undergraduates Help recruit Labor Summer interns through publicity and communication strategies including social media, flyers, and class announcements Staff support for Labor Summer internship placements, student compensation, and liaison with internship providers and Community Labor Project Advisory Committee members Organize Labor Summer information sessions for student applicants Coordinate travel, accommodations, and related arrangements for Labor Summer orientation and graduation activities Participate in cross- UC campus planning and organizational meetings for Labor Summer Assist with Labor Summer monitoring and evaluation

Public Programming/Communication/Outreach

Take lead editorial responsibility for the Community Labor Project’s monthly newsletter Oversee and coordinate with student assistants to extend and manage the Project’s social media accounts Collaborate with Executive Director and web designer to update and maintain the Project's webpage

General Management

Recruitment and supervision of undergraduate and graduate student staff Assistance with grant writing and preparing reports for campus, UC-wide, and external funding agencies Attending mandatory trainings on campus for UC PATH and other systems

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
