DescriptionThe Public Finance Communications Campaigner is responsible for developing and implementing strategic communications strategies, tools, and tactics to inform and support the key campaign objectives of Oil Change International's (OCI) Public Finance team. The consultant would work closely with the Public Finance team and OCI’s Core Communications Team, as well as with OCI’s other program team, external agencies as relevant, partners in target regions and countries and in global civil society networks.
This is a 6-month contract to work 2-3 days per week.

TravelThe position may involve international travel to attend strategy meetings and other work-related events as necessary. Any required travel will be fully covered by OCI.
ResponsibilitiesCommunications strategy development and delivery 
  • Lead in scoping, designing, and implementing communications and media strategies to support Global Public Finance work;
  • Responsible for leading the development of Global Public Finance teams’ campaign comms materials to reach target audiences, in partnership with the Core Communications Team. This may include drafting press releases, media advisories and talking points, organizing virtual press conferences, and drafting blogs, emails and social media content as necessary;
  • Take the lead in planning and executing communications strategies and projects to advance our public finance messaging and campaign goals around key international political moments and report launches, in close cooperation with key network allies and the rest of OCI’s Core Communications Team; 
  • Feed into org-wide strategy development processes/discussions where relevant;
  • Where relevant, work with external agencies in the development and delivery of communications strategies.
Media outreach 
  • Develop and maintain international and region-specific press lists relevant to campaign targets in close coordination with OCI’s Communications Manager;
  • Build relationships with and pitch stories to reporters around relevant Global Public Finance teams’ priority campaigns and initiatives and key project fights, including in support of movement partners.
Partner engagement and support
  • Collaborate internationally with allies and partners within the Global Gas and Oil Network (GGON) and other civil society networks on efforts to drive visibility to supply-side climate policy announcements and fights, including representing OCI in communications-focused working groups and meetings;
  • Represent OCI in relevant climate communicators networks; 
  • Coordinate with and lend communications support and capacity to regional and local partners engaged in campaigns to win fair finance phase-outs in their respective jurisdictions.
Administrative 
  • Update and maintain work plans as necessary;
  • Participate in staff and department meetings;
  • Help maintain our shared calendar of upcoming projects and deadlines.

About YouRequired Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:
  • 3+ years working in a communications-oriented role;
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills; 
  • Strategic media communications experience, including: developing relationships with journalists, pitching stories and organizing press conferences, and writing media materials (e.g. press releases, OpEds etc);
  • Experience developing engaging public campaigning content, including creating social media strategies and audio-visual content; 
  • Commitment to the mission of Oil Change International, passion for advocacy and campaigning, and a collaborative, team-oriented work style;
  • Sensitivity to issues of privilege, class, and race, and dedication to incorporating principles of justice into organizational work and alignment with OCI’s values;
Desired Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience working internationally; 
  • Experience working at a climate, environment, or social justice oriented non-profit;
  • Familiarity with climate and energy policy, specifically supply-side fossil fuel policy;
  • Experience working in coalition / coordinating with civil society partners.
