Bus driver provides a safe environment for children during transportation sequence. Driver is expected to handle and care for company property and abides by all federal, state, local and company laws and regulations.
Major Responsibilities and Tasks
Child Growth and Development Encourages independence and self-help by teaching children how to safely walk up and down the van or bus stairs, sit face forward in the seats, and buckle seat belts Uses positive approaches to help children deal with anger and frustration and to explain procedures Deals with any incidents that occur on the van or bus immediately upon returning to the center, and incident reports are completed upon return to the center Learning environment and experiences Capitalizes on opportunities to help children build vocabulary when interacting with children on the van or bus and during field trips Develops a sense of community by allowing children to participate in decisions about seating arrangements (when appropriate) Leaves the center on time so the children are picked up/ dropped off at school on time and the daily schedule remains predictable and consistent Professionalism and Professional Development Treats children of all races, religions, socio-economic status and cultures with equal respect and considerationCompletes all required ODJFS transportation trainings as well as CPR, First Aid, Child Abuse Recognition and Prevention, and Communicable Disease Recognition and Prevention coursesExemplifies professional work habits including confidentiality, respect for all people, dependability, time management, independence, and teamwork Family and Community Relations Establishes and maintains communication with families, schools, and other community partners Accepts the values of families in a non-judgmental way and will accommodate requests of the families that are within state requirements and safety guidelines Health, Safety, and Nutrition Conducts monthly emergency evacuations Completes weekly vehicle inspectionsKeeps the vehicles clean and sanitary (interior and exterior) so the vehicles are presented in a professional way when out in the communityExplains rules regarding health and safety related issues Other Reports any traffic violations involving company vehicles to administrationAny other duties assigned by center administrationBasic Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent Valid driver’s license At least 21 years old Certified in CPR, First Aid, and Communicable Disease Safe driving record in accordance to CWCC’s current insurance standards
