The telemetry tech (or monitor tech) is responsible for ensuring that any patient on the inpatient telemetry unit with a cardiac monitor ordered is admitted to the central monitor system; has an appropriate heart rhythm tracing; and that changes or abnormalities in rhythm are reported to an RN. Ability to perform 15 lead EKG on patients on H4A and throughout hospital as needed in emergencies. The monitor tech is also responsible for equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

1. Understand how to admit, transfer, discharge and suspend all patients to the central monitor system. Be able to demonstrate with understanding the importance of always saving data when transferring or discharging patients.

2. Maintain appropriate heart rhythm tracing.

3. Recognizes normal heart rhythm, artifact, and life threatening heart rhythms.

4. Respond to all monitor alarms, report heart rhythm changes to RN or MD promptly.

5. Clean, maintain, and inventory all equipment associated with cardiac monitors. Clean, maintain, and inventory other equipment as assigned.

6. Precepts new employees, and posseses ability to educate other employees on correct usage of both telemetry and bedside monitors.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

1. High School graduate or equivalent.

2. Previous health care experience as a Nursing Assistant, Unit Coordinator, Medical Assistant, nursing student, EMT, Medic or experience with cardiology patients.

3. Basic computer skills required.4. Excellent communication and customer service skills.5. Age appropriate care and service

to pediatric patients of all ages and selected adults.

6. Neat appearance, good grooming, and professional manner.

7. Completion of orientation classes offered by Nationwide Children's Hospital, the Patient Care Services Division and the unit.

8. Current CPR (BLS-Health Care Provider required).

9. Ability to identify abnormal rhythms and or changes in rhythms preferred

10. Demonstrated annual competencies.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to see, hear, stand, walk, speak, read perform basic math calculations, (add, subtract, multiply, and divide), and perform manual tasks with or without accommodation, and care for oneself with little or no difficulty. Must be able to independently lift up to 25 lbs. Must be able to move or reposition patients of any weight or size with the assistance of another person(s) and/or equipment.
