Supports the Continuous Improvement philosophy of the Operations Division and complies with the OD Safety Program to include all safety & health rules, regulations & operating policies & procedures. Complies with all attendance policies & guidelines.  Delegates & controls authority to plan, direct, control & coordinate assigned work center and personnel within guidelines established by TTU OP's & current published policies by assisting ship foreperson or performing such in absence of unit manager.  Prepares reports & correspondence & conducts studies as requested by the unit manager. Advises unit manager on job or project status & operational problems.  Monitors and/or supervises preventive maintenance on steam machine equipment. Monitors & supervise work site operation. Collects information for the inventory of campus steam equipment for the purpose of maintenance scheduling.  Assesses job or project materials requirements & prepares requisition for materials from supply warehouse or vendor. Maintains records of materials and labor expended on each project or job assignment. 
 

Preferred Qualifications

Provides assistance in the operational control, direction & management over the Steam Shop work center to include: operations, maintenance, renovations, new construction & installations of steam powered heating equipment, domestic hot water generation & lab equipment that uses steam as part of its process. Assists technicians in identifying problem areas, troubleshooting & providing guidance in developing solutions. As a working supervisor, position requires good leadership, management abilities in a highly technical field. Have valid drivers license & ability to operate motor vehicles. Must meet minimum physical fitness requirements. Must pass pulmonary function test & be certified to wear negative pressure respirator.  Good communication skills, both written & verbal, to deal with customers, shop personnel & other department personnel. Working knowledge of operation & safe use of all power & hand tools/equipment common to the steam fitter/machinist field. Proficiency in interpretation of freehand sketches, schematics, blueprints, as-built drawings, diagrams & technical publications related to the field. Safely performs machinist skilled work in the construction, installation, maintenance & repairs of equipment and/or machinery.  Minimum five (5) years on-the-job experience as a steam fitter/machinist technician or plant operations technician in commercial/industrial distribution and process equipment. Supervisory experience of technicians and equipment related to the position preferred, but not required. Accredited journeyperson level certified training in the field can be substituted for three (3) years' work experience.
